SUHI CHWs Host Panel at Loyola Ground Rounds
SUHI CHWs at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine's Grand Rounds
SUHI CHWs were recently invited to participate on a panel at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine's Grand Rounds, and interacted with attendees regarding the general role of a CHW, cultural humility, cultural competency, and health literacy.
CROWD Kicks-off CHW Learning Collaborative in Western Suburbs
In collaboration with Health and Medicine Policy Research Group, Healthy Communities Foundation, and Community Memorial Foundation, CROWD designed the first of several learning collaboratives with CHWs from organizations across the western suburbs of Chicago including: Mujeres Latinas en Acción , Alivio Medical Center , BEDS Plus , Healthcare Alternative Systems , and Aging Care Connections .

CROWD designs each learning collaborative to be interactive participatory. Each session is designed around goals set forth by the CHWs around the knowledge and skills they hope to learn from each other throughout the year.
CROWD's Kim Jay Facilitates CROWD's Cultural Competency Module to Fellows
Kim Jay facilitated CROWD's Cultural Competency module to a group of 25 Fellows, 4 student mentors (recent graduates of the Fellows program), and 2 staff involved in a 13-month Fellowship Program through Health & Medicine Policy Research Group (HMPRG). The fellows' disciplines of study include: Medicine, Psychology, Dentistry, Disability Studies, Art Therapy, Nursing, Dietetics, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Public Health, and Social Work. 

The participants extended their gratitude for "cementing the deep importance of cultural humility".

Tuesday, November 5
  • 9:00-10:00AM: Fatima Padron and Kim Jay will present a poster, "CHWs' roles in establishing and implementing interdisciplinary CHW training and consulting for healthcare and social service organizations"
  • 3:20-3:40PM: In collaboration with HMPRG, Fatima and Kim will also participate in a panel presenting on "CHWs learning together: A new model of collaborative learning to support CHW workforce development, access to care, and CHW policy in Chicago's suburbs"
What is CROWD?
CROWD is part of Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) and Sinai Health System. SUHI works in partnership with community members and organizations to document disparities and improve health and wellness in vulnerable neighborhoods. SUHI conducts health disparities research, develops innovative community health interventions, delivers (via CROWD) community health worker (CHW) training and consultation, and provides a broad scope of evaluation services.
