GOVERNOR NEWSOME - faces growing concerns reopening California
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s rapid reopening strategy is drawing concerns from lawmakers and public health officials who fear the governor is basing decisions more on political pressure than science.
Newsom’s reopening plan started just over two weeks ago with a handful of rural counties with relatively few cases allowing restaurant dining and shopping in stores. Now,most of the state has been given the go-ahead to reopen churches, malls and hair salons. And gyms will get guidance within "a week or so," the governor said Wednesday.
Los Angeles County, now the state’s hot spot for the virus, on Tuesday released new guidelines that pick up the county’s pace to reopen, allowing religious gatherings to resume under the state guidelines and low-risk retailers to allow shopping indoors.
On Wednesday, Los Angeles County, the nation's largest county with more than 10 million people, applied for permission to accelerate into California's third reopening phase, which includes which includes schools, dine-in restaurants, barber shops and hair salons. This comes despite its high infection and death rates.

$100 million in federal funding to support the city’s COVID-19 Emergency Renters Relief Program. The program is intended to begin July 1, Martinez said.

City Council members have earmarked nearly $3 million of their council district discretionary funds for the

Small Business Protections

Eviction moratorium and legal grounds for nonpayment of commercial rent and other costs
— Issue a declaration establishing that businesses have lost the use of their property and are not functioning as intended, and cannot be evicted. (LA County)

Extended rent repayment period for small businesses
— Rent repayment period extended to 12 months for small businesses, and 6 months for other commercial properties. (LA City)

Los Angeles Restaurants and Hair Salons Can Start Reopening
Los Angeles County restaurants may soon be able to resume dine-in service, and hair salons and barbershops can start taking customers. With those reopenings, the region takes a significant step forward in the resumption of normal economic activity.
Much as retail outlets and shopping malls have been allowed to reopen with crowd size limitations and distancing requirements, restaurants that wish to offer dine-in service will be expected to comply with
numerous new protocols
. Spaces will require frequent deep cleanings, and restaurants will have to find ways to keep customers and workers physically distant from one another.

Communities of color have been disproportionately affected by cannabis criminalization--NEW GRANT
Governor’s Office of Business Development (GO-Biz) will be providing $30 million in grant funding in partnership with the Bureau of Cannabis Control for individuals hoping to establish their business in California’s legal marijuana marketplace are also from communities impacted by the criminalization of marijuana.
Los Angeles will receive over $6 million in funding. The funding was established by the California Cannabis Equity Act (SB 1294) which was authored by Senator Bradford. Under the act, individuals will also be able to receive professional job training, aid with technical and regulatory compliance, and assistance in applying for and obtaining loans. Additional information on how the funds will be awarded will be announced on July 1.
