The City of Monterey today announced a partial beach closure for San Carlos and McAbee beaches on Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16. The partial beach closure will allow for essential activity only, including ocean access, but prohibits sunbathing, lounging and group activities. This temporary measure provides additional health and safety assurance during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency sheltering in place order, particularly on Monterey’s smaller beaches.
In anticipation of increased crowds on Fisherman’s Wharf, the City of Monterey will also be reducing parking capacity in the Waterfront Parking Lot over the weekend. The Monterey City Council is scheduled to discuss overcrowding on Fisherman’s Wharf at a
special meeting at 4:15 p.m. on August 19, 2020.
Monterey Municipal Beach and Monterey State Beach’s two-mile stretch of sand will remain open and Monterey Police Department staff and California State Parks lifeguards will continue to enforce the six-foot physical distancing and group gathering restrictions that remain in effect per the State of California and Monterey County Health Orders.
Thank you for helping reduce the spread of COVID-19.
