Advocacy News

Dear Founders,

As you know, the Board has supported the decision of the Advocacy Committee to include human trafficking as one of our focus areas. To that end, we are discussing the best ways to inform our Founders about the issue and advocate for victims.

Peace Week Delaware is something we have participated in several times to talk about our grants, so we thought it appropriate to let you know of this event during Peace Week discussing human trafficking. The speaker is Yolanda Schlabach who is the founder of Zoe Ministries in Sussex County, focused on trafficking issues. It should be a very interesting discussion as we begin our work in this area. Thanks to Kate Cowperthwait for letting us know about it.

Slavery in Delaware 2019: The Crisis of Human Trafficking

Taking action against the scourge of human trafficking will be the topic of a presentation by Yolanda Schlabach, executive director of  Zoe Ministeries. This event will take place at First Unitarian Church on Monday, September 23, from 6 to 8 pm to help open the 88 event Peace Week Delaware. Director Schlabach will discuss the laws that apply to the sex trade, the psychology and trauma of abuse, red flags and points where intervention is possible. Although the talk will be raw and disturbing, Schlabach will offer ways we can help build the infrastructure to support these young victims. Light refreshments will be served at 6 pm prior to the talk and there will be time reserved for questions.

You are encouraged to bring full/unopened sanitary products to the event, a donation to Change the Cycle. Learn more at
