Thursday Great Books Study at 10:30 AM
  Dear Folks:
We continue with our study of Women of the Bible by learning about an Old Testament prophetess named Huldah. Probably not many of us are aware of Huldah and the role she played during the reign of King Josiah. She appears in 2 Kings  22:1-20 which I encourage you to read before our class this Thursday.

Josiah had become King of Israel at the age of 8 after his father's evil reign had come to an end. Josiah set out to lead the nation of Israel back to it's relationship with God. After reigning 18 years, he demanded that The Book of God's Law, which had recently been rediscovered, be brought to him. This was most likely the Book of Deuteronomy. The King became distraught when he realized how far Israel had moved from God's vision for the nation.
He then sent a delegation to Huldah, who announced that the lord would indeed bring the judgement found in the book upon the people of Israel for their idolatry.

Three things stand out about Huldah's prophecy:

1. Huldah was bold and unafraid to speak God's judgement to the King.
2. She didn't hold anything back but spoke the truth plainly. God's word had been hidden and disobeyed for generations.
3. She did, however, offer hope and a sign of renewal. Where there is genuine repentance, there is God's mercy and forgiveness. Huldah told Josiah that as long as he was king, the nation would enjoy peace.

Consider: If you speak God's truth in a loving way, you may not always be popular, but you will be respected - and blessed. ( Extraordinary Women of the Bible, The American Bible Society)

Bless you all and please offer your comments by email to me, cpkellyl@aol.com, especially if you are not able to be present for the discussion this Thursday!
