Voting Trends Among Portuguese Americans

Dear Members and Friends,

There is no doubt that this year's election was unprecedented.

As the election process concludes, we see a unique opportunity for everyone to channel the passion and conviction that we have felt these past months towards continuing to make a difference. Whether you are happy or unhappy with the election result, it's not too late to get involved and and we encourage everyone to seek to have an impact on our future. There are many different ways to become more civically active by volunteering or looking for work at one of the following:

  • Voter Registrars - Sign up to work the polls in the next election
  • Local or statewide advocacy organizations that focus on the issues and values that you feel are most important
  • Reach out to local elected officials and ask for their recommendations on where they need help or volunteers

In addition, the best way to ensure your voice is heard is to contact your local elected officials and let them know what issues matter to you, what you think should be done and why.

Over the past few months, there has been much speculation as to "how the Portuguese vote" - do most vote Democrat, Republican or other?

The fact is, there is no hard data to answer this question. Therefore, PALCUS invites you to participate in a brief survey regarding voting trends among Portuguese Americans. In this survey, you will be asked questions about your voting preferences and political participation as well as a few demographic and socioeconomic questions. It will take approximately 2 minutes to complete the questionnaire.

Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary. There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any questions, you may skip that question or withdraw from the survey at any point. It is very important for us to learn your opinions.

Your survey responses will be strictly anonymous and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. Your information will be coded and will remain confidential. If you have questions at any time about the survey or the procedures, you may contact PALCUS president, Angela Simoes at 202-466-4664 or by email at [email protected].

Thank you very much for your time and support.
