MEMORIZE, READ, STUDY
It is important to read the Word of God, and to also study it in depth. We must know the bible to know truth for it reveals to us the very heart of God the Father and of Jesus, who is The Truth and The Word.
There are times when we need to know that
“it is written”
as Jesus said to Satan in His wilderness temptation. For this reason, it is good for us to memorize certain key passages or verses since we do not always have a Bible immediately at hand.
Have you ever thought you could be able to memorize an entire chapter of the bible? Hmmm…try this one for “size.”
Psalm 117,
“Oh, praise the Lord, all ye nations; praise Him, all ye people. For His merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord.”
There you have it, a whole chapter. That could give you some “bragging rights,” even if in jesting. 😄
Seriously though, there are many parts that it would be well to memorize. If you have not done it, keep in mind what is stressed in Psalm 119:11
, “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
The Word of God will keep us on track.
I would suggest the King James Version (KJV) for memorization and for study. You may cross reference with other versions for your own enhanced understanding, but if you ever need to locate a particular passage that is on your mind, you can find it by looking up key words in a concordance of the Bible. All concordances of which I am aware are keyed specifically to the KJV. That is why it is important to know the KJV wording.
There are many scriptures that you could choose to memorize or read frequently over and over again. Here are a few suggestions.
