CLARIFICATION ON REQUESTS TO SWITCH ACADEMIES
The OCSA Administrative Team has received several inquiries from families interested in having their students switch learning academies as we resume in-person instruction next week. In light of these requests, we would like to take this opportunity to provide some additional insight regarding OCSA’s ability to accommodate them.

When the instructional plan for Spring 2021 was approved by the OCSA Board of Trustees, families were notified that the deadline to make an academy selection was critical to enabling the Administrative Team to design a semester-long learning experience aligned to each family’s preferences. Families’ selections allowed the Administrative Team to make vital staffing decisions for our reimagined master schedule and provided the basis for the labor agreement with our academic teachers. The labor agreement specifies social distancing guidelines and individual classroom capacities on campus. Using the health and safety guidelines established by the CDC and CDPH as a framework, OCSA developed the parallel Virtual and Hybrid/In-Person Learning Academies with the understanding that, at some point during the spring semester, students in the Hybrid/In-Person Learning Academy would likely resume in-person learning two days per week on the OCSA campus.

Although we understand that the public health landscape looks very different today than it did when we originally designed spring semester schedules, OCSA cannot accommodate requests for students to switch into the Hybrid/In-Person Learning Academy for the remainder of the school year. We certainly wish that we could bring all students back to campus simultaneously, but given the current health and safety guidelines, classroom capacity limitations, and the agreed upon language in our labor agreement with teachers, we are unable to do so at this time.

We are committed to ensuring that ALL students, regardless of learning academy, benefit from an outstanding educational experience through the conclusion of the spring semester. And, as we look ahead, pending guidance from the State of California, our goal is to have all students back on campus for the start of our 2021-2022 school year. Until that time, we thank you again for your continued patience and understanding.

COURSE SELECTION FOR 2021-2022
