GROUP EVENTS + GATHERINGS PROHIBITED

The LA County Public Health Officer has issued an order to Prohibit Group Events and Gatherings, Require Social Distancing Measures, and the Closure of Certain Businesses. The order states, “….the Los Angeles County Health Officer issued an order to prohibit all indoor and outdoor, public and private events and gatherings within a confined space, where 50 or more members of the public are expected to attend at the same time, to require physical distancing measures and temporary closure of certain businesses. “
 Also, if Los Angeles Police Department officers respond to and verify that a large party is occurring at a property, and there’s evidence that the venue has repeatedly engaged in such behavior, the department will request that the city shut off water and power services within 48 hours.

UPDATE: Protocol for Colleges & Universities Released
Photo: East Los Angeles College

LA County's Department of Public Health (DPH) has released it's Protocol for Institutes of Higher Education, which, among other things, states essential operations at colleges and universities may continue, but most academic instruction must continue to be done virtually. Regrettably, LA County's community transmission rates remain high.
If you haven't read it yet, below we share highlights on what's new or may have changed:
  • Institutions may continue to offer in person training;
  • Instruction only for students who are or will become part of the essential workforce (and only for required activities that cannot be accomplished through virtual learning);
  • Faculty and other staff may come to campus for the purpose of providing distance learning, and other activities related to the purposes above, as well as maintaining minimum basic operations;
  • Colleges and universities should limit their on-campus student residency to only providing housing for students who have no alternative housing options;
  • Collegiate sports may ONLY proceed in compliance with all the California Department of Public Health Specific Interim Guidance for Collegiate Athletics.

DPH continues to work closely with the State to ensure that when students return to campuses, the environment will be safe for all. As guidance is updated, we will let you know.
Voting - What to expect this November
Voting in LA County this November? Know someone who is? If so, LA County wants to make sure you and yours know what to expect come November.

Beginning October 6, LA County will mail all registered voters a Vote By Mail ballot. In addition to receiving the Vote by Mail Ballot, registered voters will also have more options for returning the ballot, as well as the option to track their ballot with a free "Where's My Ballot" service (if you missed this announcement, read it here).

LA County's Registrar-Recorder Dean C. Logan has worked hard to make sure all registered voters in LA County are ready for this November's election. That is why you'll find information on LA County's new voting options in multiple languages.

For additional voting information, including whether you're registered to vote in LA County or how to register, visit LA County's Registrar-Recorder website at lavote.net.
