WHY TURKEY DAY TOPS THEM ALL
We’re thankful to you for enabling PESA to help those in need
Ah, Thanksgiving. It’s officially everyone’s favorite holiday. (O.K., we’re making up that part, but it should be.) Consider: It’s not religion-based, so there’s no reason for denominational bickering between gramma Gertie and second-cousin-once-removed Arnold. Aside from some harried grocery shopping, there isn’t a consumerism angle to it. At its core, it’s about bringing together family and friends for a feast in celebration of all that we have to be thankful for—which is plenty, despite the Sturm und Drang of the past few years. Oh, and did we mention that because it’s always on a Thursday, it locks in for the lucky among us an extra-long weekend? Try scoring all that on St. Patty’s Day.

Still, Thanksgiving can be a challenging time for those who are food insecure, on a limited budget or a fixed income. To help make the holiday a bit happier for those people, PESA joined with State Senator María Elena Durazo (24th district) for her third annual turkey giveaway, held Tuesday, November 23 at the senator’s office in Los Angeles.  PESA donated funds to provide 280 turkeys to deserving families, who also received a bag of fresh tangerines from sponsor Cuties Citrus. We were thrilled to be able to put the “giving” in Thanksgiving.

Which brings us full circle to the thankful part. Here at PESA, we’re especially appreciative of you, our supporters and stakeholders. We’re proud that your financial and in-kind support enables us to, in turn, support important programs such as the Judge David S. Wesley Los Angeles Superior Court Teen Court Program as well as numerous other educational and social-work efforts (like the turkey giveaway, for example) that improve the lives of countless people in our community. Without your support, it simply wouldn’t be possible.

So this Thanksgiving, as we sit down with our individual families to enjoy a meal and tally our blessings, the PESA family will raise a drumstick in your honor.  Thank you from all of us—and gramma Gertie, too.
