Why do we do Dessert Theatre?
The discipline of Theatre enables a child to become more in tune with his/her own unique attributes and gifts. Children are free to identify and solve problems within the rehearsal process, promoting their intellectual curiosity. They grow in their ability to express ideas clearly, helping to build confidence in their own communication skills. Theatre is a truly collaborative art form where children learn to be responsible for themselves and others. This social cooperation reinforces and motivates positive behavior, building personal integrity. The very process of developing a character challenges the child to see the world from a different point of view and teaches him/her how to bring intellect and emotion together. Plus, the art of presenting theatre engages whole minds through the genuine application of literacy and the integration of knowledge across the curriculum.

Coach Strickland Named CHSAA Assistant Coach of the Month
Girls' basketball Coach Caleb Strickland has been named the CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) Assistant Coach of the Month for January. Coach Strickland, a newcomer to the CSS coaching staff, and his wife Jessica are parents of 4th grader Adelaide. Like her dad, she loves basketball and the Indiana Hoosiers. The family relocated to Colorado Springs from Indiana five years ago for career opportunities.

"Caleb has been instrumental in our player development and conditioning program, bringing his expertise of personal training to our campus," Head Coach Vicki Vaughan said. "His vision for transforming our weight room to a cross-fit facility has sparked an increased interest for our athletes. We have kids working out at 6:00 a.m. with Coach before school, and this is a first for Kodiak Athletics. The benefits are incredible and we are beginning to witness the increased strength and agility on the court."

Coach Strickland also works with our middle school girls' teams and his positivity goes a long way. "I appreciate how Caleb has found the balance between holding our athletes accountable but in a non-threatening manner," Vaughan said. "His demeanor, expertise, commitment, and work ethic all add credence to this award and affirm that he is the perfect fit for Kodiak Athletics."

Congratulations, Coach Strickland!
Re-enrollment and Indexed Tuition Deadlines Approaching

Each year as we prepare for the re-enrollment process, we look to streamline and simplify the time and energy it takes for families to successfully re-enroll their students. The first step of preparing for re-enrollment is marking February 1-15, 2020, on your calendar.
Tuition Lock Program
February 1-15, 2020, will serve as the period of time to re-enroll your student(s). Re-enrollment must be complete by February 15 to secure your student's spot in the class and to receive the benefit of locked tuition. After February 15, the 2020-2021 tuition increases will take effect. Read about this loyalty initiative on our website.

Applying for Indexed Tuition
Indexed Tuition applications must be submitted yearly and are due no later than February 1, 2020. Applications received after that date will be considered only after on-time applications have been reviewed and decisions will be made based on available funding.

Click here to review the steps for submitting Indexed Tuition materials.

February 1 and 15 are Saturdays, so please plan accordingly.

Please feel free to contact Joy Maguire-Parsons, Director of Admission, with any questions about re-enrollment, applying for Indexed Tuition, and/or the tuition lock program. She may be reached at [email protected] or (719) 434-3520.

We couldn't do this without you!

8th Graders Engage in Hands-on Algebra Lesson with Barbie Bungee
How to have fun while learning Algebra? Barbie Bungee from the top of the Trianon! Eighth grade students in Thalley Lindeman's class engaged in a week-long project in which they worked in groups of threes as owners of a bungee jumping company that would provide Barbie with the thrill of a lifetime while keeping her safe. The goal was to use linear algebra to determine how many rubber bands would be needed for Barbie to safely bungee from the Trianon - too many could mean disaster for Barbie.

Students formulated conjectures, then gathered data from smaller trial jumps using different numbers of rubber bands. They used the results to create scatter plots and draw a line of fit and  the equation for it. Using graphing calculators, students found the linear regression equation, which determined how many rubber bands to use for the big jump. With excitement, students tested their findings by sending Barbies bungee jumping from the Trianon roof.

The project culminated with posters that summarized the students' calculations and predictions, as well as the outcomes: whether their Barbie bungeed safely or was unlucky. Most Barbies survived.
Submit Student Achievements & Photos

Parents and teachers are encouraged to submit nominations and digital photos of student achievements to Anslee Wolfe, Communications and Marketing Manager, at  [email protected] These extracurricular achievements make us a well-rounded school and highlight the many unique talents and passions of our student body. Each week, a diverse selection of achievements is highlighted in ROAR and shared on social media.
