How We Build Partners & Community...
Training & Outreach

PWJC believes that training and outreach is key to the effectiveness of our legal services on behalf of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. Since March 13th, when shelter in place orders took effect, our staff and volunteers have participated and led trainings on topics ranging from the use of technology in providing service to the ever changing legal landscape of Family Law. Keeping up to date and integrating web platforms to our service allows for volunteers and staff to continue helping people on their journey away from abuse. Since March 13th , our staff has conducted 24 trainings and 5 outreach webinars , partnering with new outlets, agencies and supporters, to broaden its reach.

Highlighting Our Partnership With The Loft
Through our various programs, we are able to provide free legal services or information to everyone regardless of financial means, race, gender, sexual orientation or immigration status. At PWJC we believe it takes a team of committed people to provide the resources to support a victim on a journey away from abuse . We work hand in hand with other service providers to create reciprocal relationships that ensure victims have access to all the resources and support available.

An integral aspect of the reciprocal relationship includes a referral partnership, as well as engaging in trainings and community conversations. One such important relationship is the partnership we have with The LOFT , facilitating direct referrals to our attorneys for their clients. We have engaged in reciprocal training so that both agencies are prepared to assist their clients, as they face their unique issues. This partnership creates opportunities to foster interactions that are more positive and comfortable for the LGBTQ community faced with domestic violence issues . Additionally, PWJC refers clients directly to The LOFT for counseling or support, and they are available to accompany our LGBTQ community clients for court appearances.

Jodi Baretz, LCSW, author, therapist and mindfulness coach has collaborated with Lori Laub, founder of Heroes Raising the Barre, for a discussion on self-compassion, not only during the Pandemic but to utilize for our lives.

Self-compassion is a life skill that is not always innate but can be learned. During these unprecedented times we are very hard on ourselves. Some of us may be busier then ever trying to schedule all the hours in the day, adding more pressure onto ourselves.
Let’s discuss and learn together how to be kinder to ourselves and have more compassion starting from the inside.
