WEEKLY PARISH WORSHIP VIDEO

This St John’s Worship Video anticipates our in-person worship service on Sunday, October 24, 2021 – the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost.

This video features a conversation with the Rev. Dr. Caroline Ducros, St John’s Deacon. In addition to her upcoming appointment to St Alban’s and St-Bernard, our conversation focuses on inclusion and especially inclusive language in the liturgy.

The Gospel account of Jesus healing the blind man, Bartimaeus, turns us to the language of seeing as a metaphor for growing in understanding and conversion. This is beautifully complemented by St John’s Choir’s presentation of Amazing Grace – and Gordon Johnston’s meditative improvisation on Amazing Grace on the harp.

All of this is intended to help you create space to notice your blessings as you watch. For the other scriptures of the day and additional beautiful music, come and be part of
St John’s for in-person worship this Sunday, October 24, 2021.

We hope you will join us for in-person worship. Check out our safety practices and register:

Welcome and I’m looking forward to meeting you!

WHAT'S HAPPENING
FALL COLOURS HIKE

This Saturday October 23 (rescheduled due to rain earlier this month), plan to enjoy the great outdoors with St John's!

Walk with us in beautiful Gatineau Park. Meet at the church 9:15am to share rides, leaving at 9:30 a.m. Or meet us at Kingsmere (Parking Lot P6) at 10:00 a.m.

We will walk, stop for a snack, stop for communion in the woods, take lots of pictures, and enjoy a pub in Old Chelsea before heading back to St John's.

Please help us plan by indicating whether you're a driver (how many spaces are available in your car), or you need a ride, or you plan to meet us at Kingsmere. Send an email: gary.vandermeer@stjohnsottawa.ca

CELEBRATION OF NEW MINISTRY
The installation of the Rev. Gary van der Meer as Rector of St John’s will take place on Sunday, October 24, 4:00 p.m. The preacher is the Rev. Canon Dr David Neelands, retired Dean of Divinity at Trinity College, Toronto.

Please register to attend this service as you would for Sunday morning: https://backtochurch.ca/

Worship volunteers, please see the worship schedule to confirm your participation: https://rostervolunteers.com/cgi-bin/roster.cgi

While the current pandemic guidelines do not permit refreshments in church following the service, you are welcome to join the St John’s contingent that will go for an after-service meal at Deacon Brodies.
FAREWELL TO THE REVEREND DR CAROLINE DUCROS
Caroline's final Sunday at St John's is October 31st. She begins her ministry at St Alban and St-Bernard on November 1, and God willing, will be ordained priest in the coming months. Be sure to come see Caroline off and hear her final sermon at St John's on October 31st. And don't forget to check out her interview in this Sunday's Worship Video!

If you would like to contribute to St John's farewell gift to Caroline, please drop off an envelope at the church office by Friday October 29!

With thanks for her sermons, her consistent presence, and her readiness to serve those in need.

"OPEN DOORS"

Good news! On October 14th we held our first Open Doors to welcome passers-by into our church. We were delighted to greet a few visitors, and know over time the numbers will grow.
For now we are open on Thursdays, a day we are invited to gather for reflection and conversation in the morning and when the Shop opens at noon. We set up from 11:45-1:15, but we’re thinking about adding other days or perhaps other times during the day.
It’s so good to be back! Thanks to those of you who have agreed to volunteer a couple of hours each week.
