My Body Has Memory?
by
 Dr. CarolMarie
Recently I prayed with a lady who had experienced something very unusual.  A few months ago, she had been introduced to a man with the same name as a neighbor she had when she was a child.  In talking with him she found out he WAS her childhood neighbor.  She wondered why she didn't remember him but only his name.  Later the memory came to her that this man's father had raped her when she was a child.  Then that evening she experienced a severe urinary infection so painful she had to go to the emergency room at the local hospital.  She had buried the memory of this neighbor and his family, but her body remembered the trauma of the event.  The urinary infection she had experienced as a child came back when triggered by the memory!

In the past when I owned Day Spas, my skilled massage therapists knew that the muscles of the body could hold memory.  Many times, after someone had experienced loss of a loved one, the grief, and sadness held by the body were released during the massage.  The client would cry and cry letting out the suppressed emotion.  My technicians were also believers and could pray over them bringing much healing.

The lady who had been raped not only by this neighbor's father, but her own father had gone through years of therapy.  She knows the power of forgiveness and that by releasing those that had violated her, it would release her life as well.  Through her obedience to forgive, God restored her life but her body needed the release of the memory also. (Note that "forgiveness" does not mean you go back into an abusive situation!  It means you are willing to let go of that offense that wants to control you.  It means you are willing to let God be the judge so you can accept His healing and restoration.)

I asked the Lord for scripture to show us HOW to release the trauma and heal the memory. He took me to Luke 22:19, 20. "And he (Jesus) took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise, also the cup ... saying, This cup is the new testament (Covenant or contract) in my blood, which is shed for you."

We took out bread and grape juice for communion and looked for guidelines to follow. We saw that the "bread" represented His Body.  He took it, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it.  So we identified the memory in her body, thanking God (that though He did not cause the evil), He brought her through so much. (Sometimes individuals actually see a vision of Jesus coming to them to take the pain.) We broke off all the trauma and memory of pain (telling her body to release it) and gave it all to the Lord to deal with.  We picked up the communion bread of the Lord's Body and thanked Him for taking all the violations, pain, sickness and infirmities for her, accepting that He broke the power of darkness and its effects off her!  We received what He gave!  As we did this the presence of God was so strong!  We expected and experienced a supernatural exchange! His Body that conquered ALL for her body! We did this in "remembrance" or with His remembrance.  His Body only remembers the victory won!

So "likewise" we picked up the cup of the new covenant, His blood contract with us!   We recognized there is life in the blood and thanked Him for His life!  We declared that His Blood washed away all the sin, hurtful memories and its effects.  We praised Him for "covenant"!  That this new covenant was better than the old covenant because Jesus paid the price once and for all.  It was a finished work and it belonged to her because she belonged to Him!  His blood sealed this experience as we applied it to the things she had experienced.  Oh, my goodness!  She could feel the freedom!  The trauma had been dismissed and the memory had been cleansed.

Your body has memory.  Many times, a sickness or continual financial or relationship problem can be connected to a traumatic experience you went through.  Know that Jesus loves you so much He was willing to take the pain and effects of every situation for you!  (If your life is not surrendered to Him, please do it now!  He wants to help you!)  Let the Lord take you back in your memory the first time you experienced the illness etc. and look to see what happened at that time. Do you need to forgive those involved and release the offense?  It wants to hold you in bondage.  Ask Jesus to come to you in that memory and then give Him the people involved and the pain you experienced.  (Take your time with Him as you go through this.)   Speak to your body and dismiss the memory.  Ask Jesus to replace it with His memory (one of victory!)  Now receive the healing in your body or situation that you need!

(I am not an expert in this field. I have only shared with you what I have learned thus far in the hope that it can encourage you. There are Christian counselors trained in walking you through the past pain that you may want to connect with.  But I do know that Jesus loves you and wants you free! You may also have a different perspective on communion and healing of the pain of the past.  That is fine.  Do not pick up offense over this if you have a different opinion.  But if this spoke to you, my prayer is that it can help you as it did my friend!)
