Socialize Responsibly
Throughout the state and country, we are seeing outbreaks of COVID-19 due to increased socialization. Keep in mind best practices for socializing safely to reduce the possible spread of the virus. Here are some tips from Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) about what you can do to keep yourself and the people around you healthy:

  • Avoid large gatherings (>10 people), such as weddings, graduation parties, or other get-togethers.
  • Stay 6 feet apart from those outside your household. Wear a mask if not possible.
  • Socialize outside whenever possible.
  • Wash hands before and after socializing.
  • Avoid touching your face.

This document from MDHHS shares these tips, as well as information about the total increase that the state saw in cases between June and July 2020.

Back to School
The Calhoun County Public Health Department continues to work with local school districts as they develop and approve plans for a very different school year in 2020-2021. The best information about your school plan will come directly from the district, as every school works through the best situation for their communities.

"Each district is in a difficult position, and they are doing what they believe is best with their available resources," said Calhoun County Health Officer Eric Pessell. "My promise to them is that I will continue to work with their leadership, and our leadership, and help work through whatever plan they decided to adopt."

Virtual Opportunities in Michigan
Of course large gatherings are cancelled nationwide, but many events have moved to a virtual format to allow participation, regardless of where you live. The Alzheimer's Association Michigan Chapter provides virtual support groups, social engagement programs, and education programs. These events, throughout August, provide a range of opportunities with partners like the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Historical Museum, and the Detroit Zoo.
