Victoria (Vicki) Black is our Volunteer of the Week!
Victoria (Vicki) Black is a committed community volunteer that volunteers for several community organizations, including the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Current Young Professionals, House of Hope, and others like the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation and the Friends of the Brown County Library. Vicki exemplifies what it is to be a volunteer. She is passionate, effective, focused, community-minded, generous, committed, and willing to give her time and talents freely where they are needed.
Vicki is a troop leader for two troops in Green Bay as a volunteer member of the Girl Scouts. While organizing and running these two troops, she works directly with over 25 girls in Kindergarten through 4th grade. This is no small feat! Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. The Girl Scouts' mission relies on the spirit, engagement, and commitment of volunteer leaders, like Vicki. Vicki helps give their girls the traditional Girl Scouts experience, organizing and leading meetings, working through badges, journeys, and awards. Most importantly, Vicki gives the girls a safe, welcoming space to learn, try, fail, grow, and build strong relationships.
Vicki also volunteers her time to make the Green Bay area a better place for young professionals. She is an active member of the Community Partnerships Committee, which is a leadership team in charge of promoting volunteerism and 'give back' opportunities for young professionals through the Current Young Professionals network (a program of the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce). Vicki joined the committee in September of 2018. Since then, she has been an integral part of many different events and projects. For example, Vicki has been a key committee member in fostering the SOUP (Support of Urban Projects) program, which is a signature initiative of Current and helps bring light and funding to worthy causes and necessary projects that can better our community. Vicki has been the captain of the SOUP task force until just recently, and took on the role to organize, plan and implement this event. Vicki has been, and continues to be, a valuable and dedicated Community Partnerships Committee member.
Vicki also volunteers with House of Hope, which provides emergency shelter and supportive services to pregnant and parent youth ages 17-24 and their children. Through her volunteer work, Vicki helps to provide services that directly affect clients and serves on event and fundraising committees that help to ensure the financial capability of House of Hope. She also helps to build community awareness about the programs and services offered by House of Hope. Thanks in no small part to Vicki's efforts, hundreds of young parents and children experiencing homelessness can know what it is to have a home.
While these are just a few examples of Vicki's volunteer efforts, it is evident that Vicki is committed to seeing her community be successful. Those that have been lucky enough to work with and volunteer alongside her know Vicki to be kind, hardworking, and tirelessly committed to the community. If there is ever a need, Vicki is always willing to engage for the better of the community, regardless of what needs to be done. Vicki has a giving spirit of volunteerism. One way she embodies this is through the time and energy she puts in. Another way is by giving a boost in the mood during a meeting, or just a word of encouragement that helps those around her feel energized and motivated to pull off an event or idea. She also gets other volunteers to step up and help when needed. Vicki is proud of her community and Green Bay is lucky to have someone like her.

Aquatic Invasive Species Snapshot Day Volunteers - August 15
Join the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance by volunteering at a stream or lake near you on Snapshot Day!
This statewide, one-day event connects volunteers, water lovers, and local groups in a search for aquatic invasive species (AIS). You can help protect Wisconsin's rivers and lakes from these invasive plants and animals that negatively impact habitat, wildlife, recreation and health. A virtual training will be provided prior to the event. 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Click here to learn more and to register.

2020 Fox-Wolf Watershed Cleanup Volunteers - August 22
Help clean up one of 60+ cleanup sites located along the Fox River, the Wolf River, Lake Butte des Morts, and Lake Winnebago by removing garbage and debris. Volunteers start their morning by checking in with their Site Leader at their chosen sites. Volunteers then grab their supplies, spread out, and clean up their site. All supplies are provided. No minimum age to participate, but volunteers under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Click here to register.

Volunteer Coaches for the Fall 2020 Season - Starting September 14
Girls on the Run is looking for volunteer coaches to volunteer at Heritage Elementary in De Pere or the Kroc Center in Green Bay. Volunteer coaches receive training to facilitate lessons that creatively integrate running to empower young girls to feel joyful, healthy, and confident. Two coaches are required to be at each practice and the season ends with a celebration 5K. There is a once-a-week commitment for 8 weeks. Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 pm, or 4:00-5:30 pm. Minimum age: 18.

Packer Home Game Parking Volunteers - September 20-December 27 (Dates Determined by the Green Bay Packers Schedule)
Acts 1:8 Ministry is looking for 3-4 volunteers to park cars before each of the home games. Click here to view the 2020 Packer schedule. Volunteers would need to arrive 3 hours before each game and are asked to wear suitable clothes for the weather. Pick your dates. Location: Acts 1:8 Ministry, 2145 S. Oneida St. Minimum age: 13.

Estate Planning Volunteer - Ongoing
Support and strengthen the estate planning program to grow support and raise awareness to further Acts 1:8 Ministry’s mission. Key responsibilities: develop and grow the estate planning program by researching cost-effective ways to bring the program to large groups, give presentations about the program in front of individuals and groups, and researching grants to help grow the program. The volunteer must have the following skills: time management and organizational skills, strong oral and written communication, problem solving skills, the ability to manage and meet deadlines, detailed-oriented and the ability to multitask, outgoing and a cheerful disposition, strong interpersonal skills, and must be good with a computer (including Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel). They are seeking volunteers that have a passion for estate planning and sharing their mission: training Christians to evangelize through kindness. Estate planning certification or knowledge, and 5 years of work experience is preferred. This part-time volunteer opportunity will be done at the Acts 1:8 Ministry office in Green Bay. Minimum age: 25.

IT Specialist Volunteer- Ongoing
Acts 1:8 Ministry is looking for a volunteer who is an IT Specialist that can help the with the following: (1) Put their server information on the cloud, and then train their staff on how to access and save information. The goal in doing this is so the staff can access all their information from home; (2) Audit all their IT systems and networks. This would also include giving them a list of options, cost and time frames on when these would be good to complete; (3) Direct the staff to finding a grant that helps out nonprofits to update computers and systems. Minimum age: 21.

Volunteer Guardians - Ongoing
Brown County Health and Human Services is seeking individuals to act as legal guardians, which are decision-makers and advocates for those who are incompetent due to aging, a developmental disability, chronic mental illness or alcohol and drug abuse (i.e., ward). Guardians ensure that the individual’s rights to proper housing, nutrition, and medical care are met. A guardian is expected to visit their ward at least once a month and complete an annual report. A legal guardian does not financially support the ward, take care of the ward on a day-to-day basis, or personally provide a place for the ward to live. This is a flexible opportunity and is based on needs of the ward. Minimum age: 18.

Volunteer Drivers - Ongoing
Drive clients to and from vital appointments and offer door-to-door assistance as needed. Curative provides the vehicle, gas, and insurance. No CDL required. Shifts are available Monday through Friday (morning or afternoon) and typically last 4-5 hours. Volunteers must have a good driving record and will undergo a background check. Minimum age: 18.

Clean Team Volunteers - Ongoing (throughout the Summer)
Help keep downtown Green Bay looking great while getting in those steps in and checking out all the new businesses in the downtown districts. Volunteers will assist with trash pick up (that’s right, you get a super cool grabby thing to pick up trash with) and weeding (work those biceps!). Hours are flexible, but they are asking for a minimum commitment of 2 hours per week (you want more? Go for it!). Minimum age of 14 unless accompanied by an adult (they think all volunteers are great, but volunteers can’t be shorter than their pickers are long).

Girl Scout Volunteers - Ongoing
Anyone can be a Girl Scout volunteer – grandparents, aunts and uncles, community members, Girl Scout alumni, everyone is welcome! Being a Girl Scout volunteer is a great way to give back to the community, change lives, stay active, and have a ton of fun! The Girl Scouts are looking for volunteers who can help inspire girls at the following schools: Beaumont Elementary, Elmore Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Fort Howard Elementary, Tank Elementary, and MacArthur Elementary. Minimum age: 18.

Navarino Park Program Volunteers - Ongoing (throughout the Summer)
Howe Community Resource Center is looking for 1-2 people to come have fun with the neighborhood kids by playing games, doing a craft or anything the volunteer(s) would like to do! Howe Community Resource Center will provide supplies if needed and will be there to assist. Volunteer for one or multiple days. Wednesday evenings from 5:55-7:00 pm throughout the summer. Anyone under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent.

Thrift Store Retail Associate Volunteers - Ongoing
Volunteer duties may include demonstrating outstanding customer service and selling skills, keeping the selling floor stocked with merchandise, and assisting in display of merchandise or organizing the selling floor and stock areas. Duties include watering plants, mulching, weeding and deadheading flowers. Clean up flower beds by removing twigs, branches, and other debris. Shifts are 1-3 hours in length throughout the summer and fall. Minimum age: 18.

Resale Shoppe Volunteers - Ongoing
Unity Hospice is looking for volunteers to staff the Resale Shoppe. Duties may include receiving, sorting, pricing, and merchandising donations or may include assisting on the sales floor and cashiering. Shifts: Mondays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, Tuesdays from 10:00 am-6:00 pm, Wednesdays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, Thursdays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, Fridays from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, and Saturdays from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. The Unity Resale Shoppe is located at 1641 Commanche Ave., Suite G in Green Bay. Minimum age: 18.
