New This Week

The Pacific Southwest District is offering the  Small Church Essentials Conference  with author and pastor, Karl Vaters on Saturday, June 27, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm PDT, which will include time for lunch (on your own)/break/etc.  The conference is being offered across the country in a live-stream format via the  PSD website . There is no cost for this event, simply sign up at this  link . The content is for the whole church, not just pastors. Please invite your congregational leadership, members, other staff and faculty to join you. A brief interview of Karl Vaters by PSD Mission Exec, Dominic Rivkin is available on the  PSD website   to introduce you to the content.

The conference will originate from the sanctuary of Christ Lutheran Church and School, Costa Mesa, CA.  Since we all know how difficult it would be to speak to an empty room for 5 hours, we would like to provide Karl with a live audience. So, if you are comfortable in doing so, we invite you (congregations within an approximate one hour drive) to join us in person. We are limiting attendance to 50 people and will practice social distancing throughout the conference. If you would like to be included in the live audience, please complete the special in-person Google Form at this link. In-person signup is first-come-first-served.  Once we have 50 reservations, we will cut off signups and ask that you attend remotely. You need only register one time per congregation, but please make sure to include the number of people who will be in your group. There is an in-person limit of 5 people per congregation; there is no limit for those who participate via the internet. You are encouraged to bring a lunch with you as the break will be less than an hour.

Please arrive by 9:30 am so we are ready to go for the 10:00 am start.
We looking forward to having you join in this event!

Check out Rev. Karl Vaters website to purchase his books and read his bio.
ATTENTION: SENIOR/SOLE PASTORS
Please complete the pandemic financial impact survey
Our PSD team is endeavoring to get a better understanding of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial resources we will have available to continue our shared ministry throughout the District.  We sent a special survey out this past Tuesday, June 16 to our PSD Senior/Sole pastors. The information we gather from the survey will provide us important information on how the pandemic has affected our PSD congregations and will be very helpful in planning how to best resource our PSD churches and schools. Senior/Sole pastors please take a few minutes to locate the survey in your email and complete it.  All responses to this survey are anonymous.
MISSION ESSENTIAL: STEWARDSHIP IN CRITICAL TIMES
In a recent survey of Pacific Southwest District congregations, 55% reported a moderate to severe decline in congregational giving through this pandemic period. We asked and found that 57% of the responding congregations did not have an intentional annual stewardship emphasis in place pre-COVID19. We're learning that congregations with a strong culture of stewardship have been better able to weather unpredictable storms, like those we're all experiencing. Join Mission Executive Rev. Dominic Rivkin as he interviews our very own District President, Rev. Dr. Mike Gibson to chat about four key discipleship concepts to lead your congregants in stewardship of all God's gifts, even in anxious and challenging times.  Watch Video

NEW: Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act passed,
makes forgiveness qualification easier, provides more time to
spend PPP proceeds
The Senate passed HR 7010, the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act, on June 4, 2020, and was signed into law by the President on June 5, 2020. This bill makes a number of changes that could impact when and how organizations spend PPP loan funds. AMPLIFIED SOLDIERS OF THE CROSS GRANTS
The Pacific Southwest District is partnering with LCMS Office of National Mission, the Lutheran Church Extension Fund and a multitude of generous donors to support our church workers by providing Soldiers of the Cross (SOC)-Amplified grants to individuals who are experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For this "amplified" version of the longstanding SOC program, the definition of "church workers" has been expanded to include not only rostered church workers (DCEs, DCOs, educators, pastors, deaconesses, etc.), but also lay workers (teacher assistants, secretaries, maintenance, etc.) who are currently working for an LCMS entity or who recently worked for an LCMS entity and were furloughed due to the pandemic. PRAYER REQUESTS

Our Gracious Heavenly Father,
We cry out to you for mercy during these difficult days. Please, O God, heal our land, bring peace to our neighborhoods and cities, and tear down the walls of hate and injustice that divide us. Raise up your church to be a life-giving force - ambassadors of reconciliation.  Empower us for action that we will do more than talk - for it is time to act.  May we model for our world the oneness in Christ, who alone is the hope of the world.  Give wisdom to our civil authorities and faith leaders to make decisions and lead in directions that will result in repentance, healing, forgiveness, new directions, and peace.  We pray this in the powerful name of the Savior of all, Jesus the Christ.  Amen.

Coronavirus  -  Please be in prayer: for infection rates to slow and cease; that those who have been infected will heal quickly; that healthcare staff and first responders will be sustained as they carry this very heavy burden; that our churches, schools and preschools would be sustained and reliant on our loving God and His guidance; for courage and peace for our pastors, lay leaders, church and school administrators, faculties, and all church and school workers who are making difficult decisions, creating innovative solutions for continuing to reach people for the sake of the Gospel; for our federal, state and local leaders to seek God's will as they make important decisions and take actions against this disease; for God to bring many, many people to faith through this situation, and that His Church would be more effective than ever in sharing the Gospel with the lost and loving our neighbors.
