Eagles in Action
5th Grader’s Eagles in Action Project: PHIL’S FRIENDS
Phil’s Friends is a Christian nonprofit organization started by Phil Zielke, who has survived cancer twice. This group brings support and hope to those affected by cancer in the United States. They create amazing care packages, ongoing support through their Cards of Hope program, and spiritual support through prayer.
When anyone requests a care package for someone who has cancer,( go to www.philsfriends.org) Phil’s Friends sends a package with comforting items that people with cancer need and enjoy.
First way you can help! Consider donating any of the items in this image (click for larger view):
After someone has received a care package, they can expect to receive ongoing encouragement through the Cards of Hope program. The next thing we can do. We are coloring cards that Phil’s Friends sent us and writing positive messages of love and hope.
Another way to help is with offerings. We are having a penny war to raise money for Phil’s Friends. What that means is that pennies count against your total, so if you bring in pennies, you want to put them into the other teams’ buckets. There are 3 teams: Preschool through 2nd grade, 3rd through 5th grade, and 6th through 8th grade. Send in your silver coins (dollar bills are accepted too) for offering. At the end of March, the bucket with the most money wins a special treat determined by the teachers of the winning team with Mrs. Wykert.
The final request we have is that you pray for those who are being helped by Phil’s Friends. We are so happy to be a part of making a difference to those who are dealing with cancer.

Guidelines for Keeping Students Home

  • new onset of moderate to severe headache
  • shortness of breath
  • new cough

  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • abdominal pain from unknown cause

Fun Friday Lunches for Spring!!!
Hello Eagles!
Spring is almost here and the PTO wants to help get us (and the kids...) excited for the warm weather, Easter, and the end of this amazingly stressful year. How would you like a little more time to spend with the kids and a little less time making lunches in the week? Wouldn't it be nice to have a fun lunch option on Fridays? Then the PTO has a deal for you.

We are setting up Fun Friday Lunches for Fridays in April and May. A form will be coming home before Spring Break with meal options and amounts for each option. Please sign up for all, some, one, or none of these days. Payment can be sent into school with the form. There will be three options each Friday and the options will change each week, coming from local LaGrange businesses.

Please contact the PTO with any questions you might have. We are excited to be able to provide this option for our hard working Eagle families.

Want to help organize this and more fun events in the future? We'll be hosting PTO Zoom meetings and finding more ways to make the end of the year fun. Email us at PTO@stjohnslagrange.org
Read-a-thon Fundraiser
This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills.
The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to improving reading skills. To that end, the Read-a-thon promises to be a fun, exciting journey for all participants as they begin a personal Reading Adventure that challenges each reader to complete 10 reading sessions over our 2-week event.
Our Read-a-thon will start April 6, 2021.
Approximately 1 week before we start our first reading session we will send home paperwork with your reader explaining how you will activate their personal Read-a-thon page. For more information, please read the letter via the button below:
