High Holy Days 5781/2020
Celebration & Remembrance

The High Holy Days are a special time, not only to reflect on the lives we lead, but also to celebrate and remember a year past and those who came before us. The fact that we cannot do this in person as a congregation this year, should not preclude us from finding ways to accomplish this virtually.

Celebration
  • A new child or grandchild. It has been a tradition in our congregation to bestow a blessing on the new babies for the New Year, so we would like photos of all the new babies born since the last High Holy Days. The photo can be just of the baby, or with family - you too, grandma - and the baby. Pictures will be shown on the screen during the blessing of the babies at the end of the Neilah service on Yom Kippur.

  • Graduates. Did your son or daughter graduate from high school or college this year? The Class of 2020 graduated in a tough year and we want to honor our graduates by featuring their photos online.

  • Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. We would like to feature photos of our Bar/Bat Mitzvah class since the last High Holy Days - those who were able to have a ceremony or, unfortunately, had a ceremony that was canceled.
Remembrance

This year we will publish a Virtual Book of Remembrance, to be used online on Yom Kippur for the Yizkor Service. The entire service is conducted from this special book, in which the names of our departed are recorded. Watch your mail for the form to send in your entries, which are due by September 1. While the book will be online, if you wish to have a copy of the listings, we will gladly mail one to you.

We also welcome you to send in a photo of your loved one(s) to be shown during the Yizkor service.

Please send your photos (jpeg files only) to Mindy at [email protected] with a note identifying the people in the photograph.  All photos, both in celebration and remembrance, must be received by Monday, August 10.
