An Invitation to Write

"August is the mute
month, / In a doze, /
Leaf-laden and
lackluster, / Comatose ... "

We're in the midst of the transition from summer to autumn. How do transitions affect you? When leaving one thing and moving toward another you...Go!

Let's Come
Together!

Save the Date

We are busy planning a fun event for this year, and it will be virtual! Opportunities to interact and to be together online will be included, as well as learning about several featured wine regions.

Gratitude to those who have offered fun items for the silent auction and raffle!

We'd love to know if you are willing to donate handcrafts, self-care or culinary treat baskets, or a nice bottle of bourbon for one of two baskets.

Your contributions are appreciated! Please contact Dee or Mary if you'd like to help in any way. Thank you!

Virtual Community Events

Journeys and Community

Coming together is what allows us to form community. During this time of pandemic, it is more important than ever to create time and space for sharing our words and listening deeply to those of others. Women Writing for (a) Change is committed to providing open community events that are free of charge to all.

On Thursday, August 6th,
33 attendees from all over the country gathered in the spirit of sharing in journeys of the heart, mind, time, space and discovery. Twelve writers, including scheduled and open mic, each read a short piece, connecting with each of us as we honored the gifts of their words.

The next scheduled community event is the Annual Author Series
guest speaker Mariama J. Lockington, reading and discussing her work virtually, on September 25th. Please join us then, and keep your eyes open for other events and classes. We are all in this story together!

WWf(a)C Annual Author Series presents
Mariama J. Lockington
September 25-26

The WWf(a)C Annual Author series is pleased to welcome Mariama J. Lockington for two very special virtual events. Her Friday, September 25th reading and talk is open to the community free of charge, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. During the Friday evening presentation, Reading to Survive: #OwnVoices Representation in Children's Literature, Mariama will read excerpts from her debut middle grade novel For Black Girls Like Me, while discussing her personal journey with reading, writing, and the importance of seeing oneself reflected in literature as a young person. On Saturday morning, September 26th, Mariama will facilitate a 2.5-hour intergenerational workshop, Writing to Survive: Crafting the Story of Your Heart.

Friday, September 25th - 7:00 - 8:30 pm EDT
Reading (via Zoom) - Free Registration

Saturday, September 26th - 10 am - 12:30 pm EDT
Workshop (via Zoom) - $50

Registration available soon!

With gratitude and appreciation to the anonymous donor who made this event possible.
Shelter in the Storm

As writing circles and small groups shelter us virtually during the Covid-19 storm, we look forward to the day we can return to our in-person circles. Yet the roof on the WWf(a)C building continues to leak. We need a literal shelter in the storms!

To that end, Molloy Roofing has been contracted to replace the roof on the building this fall, with an expected start in September. The board and staff are pleased to announce that, due to a very generous gift and additional savings for a rainy day, WWf(a)C has in hand 75% of the $31,000 needed for this labor of love. In early September, please join us for an online virtual fundraiser to Raise the Roof and complete the funding of this project. Say tuned for more information!
