New Vehicular Entrance Planned For the Sea Pines Forest Preserve
Location: Service Road near Lawton Canal Road across from Lawton Stables
Project Objective: The project will modify the existing service road located across from Lawton Stables to serve its new purpose as the main vehicular entrance to the Forest Preserve. *See project footprint pictured.

Project Details: There will be a slight change of footprint to the existing service road, gravel pulls offs will be added, a new leisure trail will connect the Greenwood Drive leisure trail to the existing pedestrian bridge that crosses Lawton Canal, the guardrails on the existing vehicular bridge will be modified and the island at the intersection of Lawton Canal Road and Fish Island Trail will be re-graded to allow for new traffic patterns. This project is being funded by The Sea Pines Forest Preserve Foundation.

Current Status/ Timeline: Initial site prep work has begun with the installation of silt fencing and tree protection, this work will continue through next week. Work will also occur on Monday at the intersection of Lawton Canal Road and Fish Island Trail and delays along this area of the roadway are to be expected. Based on additional permitting approvals, this project is anticipated to take 2 months to complete, weather permitting.

Service Road Access During Construction: During this construction, the service road within the project zone will be closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians and horse traffic will be permitted and should use caution when traveling through the project zone. Temporary full closures of this service road may be necessary, but will be communicated in advance.
