Message from your Board Chair
Hello CA FBLA!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, welcome to Fall 2020! As the work for our virtual events continues, the excitement is building. With the tireless efforts of your State Executive Board, the Management Team, and the State Staff, the offering this fall is as robust as ever. First of all, we hope that everyone participating in the OAT Day for their section enjoyed their experience and learned all they can to take back to their local chapters.

As we get into October, CA FBLA’s first exclusively Adviser Retreat in 30 years will be happening on October 9 and 10. With the help our new partner TEAMTRI, new and returning advisers will receive training and information that will help them maximize the FBLA experience for their students.

Despite the ongoing challenges that we are facing in California that are keeping most of you at home seated in front your computer screen, CA FBLA is still working to bring you the same quality experience. On November 14, we will be hosting our Virtual Leadership Development Institute for all to participate statewide. This year we will be offering top quality workshops for everyone, a chance for students to sample competitive event testing, and, not one, but TWO excellent keynote speakers. We hope that all students and advisers can take advantage of this unique opportunity.

As we venture forth in these uncertain times, you can count on CA FBLA to continue bringing you exciting and challenging experiences. All you have to do is take advantage of these opportunities and ASPIRE to reach new heights.

Adviser's Conference, LDI ...
Hello Advisers,

It is finally starting to feel a little more like Fall in California, and leadership conferences are underway! By now, most of you have attended your section's OAT Day. Congratulations to our Section Directors and Section Officer Teams on hosting successful OAT Day experiences, especially considering the unique challenges of this year. We have heard lots of positive feedback, and our teams continue to work to improve upon each virtual event in order to make the next even more dynamic and successful!

The CA FBLA leadership team can't wait to see you all virtually at our first-ever Adviser Retreat this Saturday, October 10. We are excited to partner with Tri Leadership to offer this opportunity to join with your adviser colleagues in order to learn and share together about advancing as an educator and leader in order to enhance your students’ FBLA experiences and meet their goals. It's not too late to register! This conference is FREE!

Leadership Development Institute (LDI) – Saturday, November 14 – This year we are combining both LDI’s into one for a more impactful event. We are focusing on business professional led workshops, inspiring keynote speakers, engaging virtual social activities. LDI is a great opportunity to engage your current members and introduce new members to CA FBLA. Student News From Our State President
Hello CA FBLA Advisers!

I hope everyone is having a very successful start to this unique school year. The State Executive Board has been working diligently to create and provide useful resources and opportunities to our members this year. It is our goal as a team to make FBLA as beneficial as possible despite COVID-19 restrictions.

In the month of September, the State Executive Board hosted a very informative webinar with private investigator, business owner, and television star, Derrick Levasseur. Derrick shared some of his personal experiences as an undercover detective and business owner and taught our members the importance of strong communication and leadership. We are so thankful that Derrick was willing to speak to our members!

The next CA FBLA webinar will be held on October 25 at 3 p.m. with former CA FBLA State President and Harvard graduate, Cameron Khansarinia. Cameron will be speaking to our members about the importance of making the most of FBLA and taking advantage of the opportunities provided by the organization.

The State Executive Board is excited to send out a liaison email to chapter presidents informing them of upcoming events and resources that will be provided in the coming weeks. We will be publicizing a social media roadmap, database of business professionals and government officials, and a landing page dedicated to information and recordings from previous CA FBLA webinars, which can be found here

Central Section State Vice President, Jessica Abarca has developed a California FBLA Terminology Sheet that conveniently outlines FBLA acronyms, levels of competition, geography of the 6 sections in CA FBLA, and leadership events. The State Executive Board hopes that this will be yet another valuable resource of which our members can take advantage!

I am looking forward to seeing how our members utilize these resources and excel within our organization. If we all work together, I have no doubts that this year will be great for everyone involved. Thank you for your constant leadership and dedication to CA FBLA.

Best wishes,

Kelsea Whiting

Financial Literacy Grant Program
Grant Submissions Extended to November 30!
Bite of Reality and NGPF Now Offering Virtual Options!!!
The Cy-Pres Financial Literacy Grant program was originally set to wind up on March 31, 2020, and all awards and recognitions were set to occur at the SLC. In order to make adjustments in light of the current health crisis, any grant sub-programs with March 31, 2020, deadlines have had their deadlines extended until November 30, 2020.

Basically, all parts of the program remain available for both new applications and for submission of final documentation for reimbursements and awards EXCEPT for two programs that are already completed: the Section Directors grant sub-program and the student video contest (already awarded--congrats to the team from Los Osos HS).

Advisers with previously approved grant applications received their reimbursements and cash stipends (in lieu of gift cards) during May/June provided their documentation was received by March 31. All other reimbursements and stipends will be provided within six weeks of documentation submissions. If you need to review the guidelines in order to make a new application, here is a link to the Cy-Pres Financial Literacy Grant page on our web site. Links to the applications forms and/or other instructions necessary appear under each sub-program description: https://www.cafbla.org/Page/2348

If you have any questions about the Cy-Pres Financial Literacy Grant Program, please contact Sue Christensen, Business Manager, at businessmanager@cafbla.org.
