Great CA ShakeOut Drill
Thursday, October 21, 2021
10:21 a.m.
The M6.0 Antelope Valley earthquake that occurred on July 8 of this year serves as a reminder that earthquakes occur in California every year. Shaking felt from this earthquake spanned from the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains across our state to San Francisco. Two years ago, the M6.4 and M7.1 Ridgecrest earthquakes caused around $30 million in damage, reminding us that preparedness and mitigation are a must.

We would like everyone to join us in the Great California ShakeOut Drill on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 10:21am, or at a time that works best for you. Please invite your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to practice with you. You can register your participation at www.ShakeOut.org/California Remember, practice makes perfect and we want you to be prepared when shaking occurs!

Cal OES publicly launched the MyShake mobile phone app in October 2019. By downloading this app, you will receive earthquake early warnings when shaking occurs along with a reminder to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On,” or “Lock, Cover, and Hold On” for individuals using a wheelchair or assistive device.

Preparedness does matter. If you already have a plan and a kit, then you can head on over to the Earthquake Country Alliance webpage to learn more about the “Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety.” www.earthquakecountry.org/sevensteps/
