Governor Abbott Issues Executive Order
To Open Bars in Qualifying Counties
Governor Greg Abbott today issued an Executive Order to open bars and similar establishments at up to 50% capacity in conjunction with county officials. In hospital regions with low COVID-19 hospitalizations, County Judges will be able to opt their county into opening bars beginning October 14, provided they assist in enforcing health protocols.

Additionally, businesses like amusement parks, movie theaters, zoos, aquariums, and bowling alleys can expand to 75% capacity in counties with low COVID-19 hospitalizations โ€ชbeginning October 14.

The purpose of this virtual town hall meeting is to present the design alternatives approved by City Council to Buda citizens for the Whispering Hollow Drainage Capital Improvement Project. This project includes the development of a drainage study and design plans to mitigate flooding in the Whispering Hollow subdivision, particularly on Bayou Bend Drive, during seasonal storm events.

Alarm Systems Ordinance
"Over the last few years, every year we have had over a thousand false alarm calls. It has increased every year for the last ten years."

In the video below Police Chief Bo Kidd explains the recently passed Alarm Systems Ordinance. The ordinance covers only those alarms that activate a 9-1-1 call. Through Jan 1, 2021 there is NO fee to register your alarm. After Jan. 1, a residential alarm permit will cost you $25 and a business alarm permit will cost you $50. These are both one-time registration fees. Any registered alarm gets three false alarms a year with no penalty.

We do not currently have online registration submission, but you may access the application on our website at https://ci.buda.tx.us/675/Alarm-Permits and submit the application to budapd@ci.buda.tx.us, in person, or by mail.

Heritage Tree Information
A few weeks ago one of our beautiful heritage trees at the Municipal Complex fell during the heavy rains. To clarify, this is not the tree that we moved a few years ago. Many of you have reached out asking what happened. The arborist tells us that the Live Oak failed due to "Phytophthora Root Rot". This is when fungus-like organisms grow in the fine roots, cambium, and sapwood causing death of the tissue. In the photo below you can see the hole in the trunk where the fungus ate away at the tree from the inside.

Project Manager Kenny Crawford has gone underground for his latest "Kenny's Construction Chat" installment on the Main Street Improvement project.

Scam Alert
The City of Buda continues to experience a scam involving a caller who is spoofing City of Buda phone numbers. Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. If someone calls you from a City of Buda number claiming that your social security number has been compromised and/or you have outstanding payments, or asks for any personal information, this is a scam. You can ask for the callerโ€™s name, hang up and call the City back with the information you received. You are also encouraged to report this to the Buda Police Department at 512-393-7896.

Remember, the City of Buda will never request your personal information over the phone; residents are able to make secure payments on our website for all utility and traffic ticket matters.

Please visit the Federal Trade Commissionโ€™s Consumer Information page for tips on how to avoid scammers. https://tinyurl.com/y4ogmptd
Hays County Transportation Plan
Hays County is updating its transportation plan to identify safety improvements, improve regional connections and mobility, and plan for future growth and development.

The project team is hosting a virtual open house to share information on the planning process and collect input on existing transportation needs. Virtual open house materials are available on the project webpage through October 10 and include a video presentation and an online survey.

Public involvement will play an important role in the development of the Hays County Transportation Plan.

Stage 1 Water Restrictions
Effective Monday, Aug. 24, 2020
Effective Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, Stage 1 Water Restrictions will go into effect for City of Buda water customers in accordance with the Cityโ€™s adopted Water Resource Management and Drought Response Ordinance. This is due to the lack of consistent precipitation, and higher than normal demands on our water production system.

Under Stage 1, irrigation with hose-end (sprinkler attached to a hose) and automatic sprinkler systems is restricted to twice per week. Irrigation with handheld bucket, handheld hose, soaker hose, or drip irrigation system is allowed any day and at any time. Violation of the ordinance could result in a fine of up to $2,000 per offense and a surcharge on the customerโ€™s utility bill.

Hope4 Hays County Veterans Program
(Information Taken From Hays County Press Release)

The Hays County Veterans Service Office has created the โ€œHope4 Hays County Veteransโ€ program for U.S. military veterans and surviving spouses.

Hays County Veteran Service Officer Jude Prather said the program is designed to help with past due rent, mortgage, utilities or car payments, thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans Assistance.

โ€œItโ€™s important we help our former military brothers and sisters,โ€ Prather said. โ€œThis program will be a bridge to help our veterans and their families. When we served, we watched each otherโ€™s backs. During these difficult times, the Hope4 program will continue that legacy.โ€

Retired Air Force 1st Sergeant Wesley Matthews, M.S.W from the Hays County Veteran Service Office will manage this assistance program while also connecting veterans to other services available for them and their families.

โ€œOur goal is to offer hope to Hays County Veterans while supplying them with solutions, a workable budget, and plan moving forward,โ€ Matthews said.

For information or to request assistance, please email wesley.matthews@co.hays.tx.us.
