OCTOBER IS
MANUFACTURING MONTH!

Manufacturing month is for students, their parents, educators and all citizens to celebrate the contributions manufacturers make in Illinois' communities.

To inspire young people to engage in the manufacturing sector, PTC created a smart comic book. Through an interactive app using augmented reality, you can explore manufacturing and celebrate the month!
ILLINOIS WORK-BASED LEARNING INNOVATION NETWORK (I-WIN)

With its partners at Northeastern University, Education Systems Center at NIU is excited to announce the formation of the new Illinois WBL Innovation Network (I-WIN) for employers, educators, and students to leverage innovative models for scaling high-quality work-based learning opportunities in school districts and community colleges across the State.

Communities around Illinois are invited to join I-WIN to receive professional development opportunities and practice in regular community of practice sessions to support and inspire their practices around virtual work-based learning.

The Education to Employer Summit is being reimagined for 2020! COMPACT will be hosting online roundtable discussions aimed to create conversation across the academic and business sectors.

Through these conversations, our goal is to increase outcome-based collaboration by creating actionable steps to achieve a more robust, diverse, and work-ready talent pipeline for McLean County.

THINGS TO KNOW
  • Check out local job opportunities with the McLean County Chamber of Commerce Community Job Board.

  • Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, Governor Pritzker signed a legislation that requires public high school students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or state aid application as a condition of graduation. ISAC’s Illinois FAFSA Mandate: Training and Support webpage provides information on the training and other support resources ISAC is providing to help students/families and schools with FAFSA and Alternative Application completion.

  • A recent collaboration with Forbes Insights, The American Workplace is Reopening. Are Employers Ready? and a survey with more than 400 senior executives in HR, IT, finance and facilities, sheds light on how businesses will need to change spaces, implement low-touch tech, and develop new policies. What will the post pandemic office look like?
  • McKinsey global commissioned a survey of business executives around the world in June 2020. The results suggest that the crisis may accelerate some workforce trends already underway, such as the adoption of automation and digitization, increased demand for contractors and gig workers, and more remote work.
