Parents and Students,
Amazingly enough, we have 9 weeks left in this school year! Parents - thank you for that you have done throughout this year. We really need your help to finish the year strong. We need your help to encourage kids to attend class, turn in work, and communicate to their teachers if anything comes up preventing them from doing that.
Spring break will be the week of March 29th. While we hope that many Spartans will be able to take a break and spend some time away from screens, it is the perfect time for students who are behind to buckle down and get back on track before the final push of the semester.
Padres y estudiantes,

From DPS: Updates on Snow Day Policy for 2020-21
|
|
This past year, we've had to make many decisions on scenarios that are outside our typical way of doing things in order to support our students and make up for lost learning time due to the pandemic. With that in mind, we realize our snow day decisions this school year -- while made with the best intentions for our students and educators -- may have caused confusion and been difficult to apply, such as the two-hour delay we called for recently. After gathering feedback, DPS leadership has created an outline for how we will handle snow days for the rest of the 2020-21 school year:
- For a single snow day, we will do a traditional snow day, with no in-person or remote learning.
- If, due to weather, we are not able to safely allow students to attend in person for multiple days, then starting on the second day we will pivot to remote learning.
- To support in planning and this shift, any time we are considering a potential snow day, we will send messaging to schools by mid-day the day before to remind students and teachers to prepare (such as by taking home computers) in the event that it becomes a multi-day event and we need to shift to a virtual model.

Food and Nutrition Services
|
|
The FNS (Food and Nutrition Services) team had a meeting this morning with folks from the Colorado Food Cluster (CFC). CFC has launched a new initiative to deliver 7-day meal boxes with (7) suppers and (7) snacks to families in Denver. They are currently working with various charter schools, but they have the capacity to expand to other DPS schools.
FNS is not "involved" with this effort as we are not the vendor providing the suppers/snacks. However CFC is working directly with DPS schools to sign up families at no charge. The meals are available for kids ages 6-18 years old. Below is the sign up form and is available in English and Spanish.

In an effort to provide GT students and their families with the resources and supports needed to begin/complete their Advanced Learning Plan (ALP), the TJHS GT Site Team has created a Google Classroom for each GT grade level. The title and code for each grade level is listed below:
TJHS Gifted and Talented 2024 Cohort - doyqstu

Keep in mind that there are affective as well as academic goals. At this time, students should only focus on the Goals / Advanced Learning Plan section and not worry about the badges right now. We don't want you to get in there and feel overwhelmed.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Tate, our Dean Instruction and GT Point of Contact at adria_tate@dpsk12.org
Our District GT Partner is Brian Beard, brian_beard@dpsk12.org, and you may receive GT newsletters from his office with internship and university opportunities.
