A paper shredding event will be held on Saturday, October 5th from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Public Works Facility.

Rain Barrel Workshop Provides a Free Rain Barrel
|
Rain barrels collect roof runoff and store the water for future use providing many environmental benefits. Rain barrels are inexpensive to install and maintain.
Dauphin County Conservation District in partnership with Derry Township Municipal Authority is hosting a rain barrel workshop. The workshop will be held at the Derry Township Municipal Authority (DTMA), located at 670 Clearwater Road, Hershey, on Wednesday, October 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The workshop is open to all who are interested in installing a rain barrel, but will be limited to the first 50 who register. There is no cost to attend the workshop. Workshop participants will receive a FREE RAIN BARREL (Limit one rain barrel per household).

The 5th annual Choctoberfest will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. in ChocolateTown Square Park, located on the corner of Chocolate and Cocoa Avenues in Downtown Hershey. This family friendly fall festival features great live music, local craft beer, chocolate, and delicious food from downtown restaurants, and offers an array of family and children’s activities. Choctoberfest is free and open to the public, with food and beverages available for purchase.

1, 2, Whee! was one of the programs selected for the Pennsylvania Library Association Youth Services Best Practices Award. 1, 2, Whee! was spearheaded by Children's Library Assistant, Barbara Clay and attracts 70-80 attendees each week. This innovative program takes a new approach to story time by incorporating high energy singing and dancing. 1, 2, Whee! sessions are offered year round. Sign up for a five week program. Derry Township Community Cats to Hold Spay/Neuter Clinic
|
Derry Township residents can sign up to get help with trapping outdoor free-roaming cats and having them spayed/neutered and vaccinated for free through Derry Township Community Cats. The next clinic is on October 8. Reservations can be made by calling 717-592-8087.
Residents can also schedule a low-cost spay or neuter and vaccinations for owned cats by calling the same number. Visit

Historical Society's 7th annual Preservation Tour
|
The Hershey Derry Township Historical Society is hosting their 7th annual Preservation Tour on Sunday, October 6th.
The tour this year will feature the history of the township before Mr. Hershey left his mark here. Places like the Union Canal, the many quarry operations, old churches, early communities and businesses, and more will be featured as the Trolley transports us to the areas where these things took place.
New this year, the museum will host an event-long Open House throughout the day. In addition to refreshments and an opportunity to see our new barnyard makeover, those taking the tour will be able to see additional displays about the points on the tour.
Included in those displays will be a special selection of items on loan from the Hershey Story of items from Mr. Hershey's Early American collection once housed in the Indian Museum, an early Township home that now accommodates the American Legion.

Hershey Area Playhouse Presents The Mystery of Edwin Drood

Hershey Area Playhouse is proud to present a highlight of its 20th Anniversary Season,
The Mystery of Edwin Drood, written by Rupert Holmes.
Based on Charles Dickens’ unfinished novel of the same name,
The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the story of the young and charming Edwin Drood, who has been mysteriously murdered in a small town in England. The hilarious, interactive whodunit mystery musical gets the audience in on the action by allowing them to vote on the ending, which means that each show is a truly unique and unpredictable experience.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood, running October 3 to 6 and 10 to 14, 2019. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2 p.m.

Community Activities at Grace UMC
|
On October 19th at 5 p.m. they are having live music on the lawn of the Grace United Methodist Church at
433 E Main St, Hummelstown
. This is a free event open to the community. There will also be four food trucks on property for people to come and enjoy.
On October 20th starting at 4 p.m. they are hosting their annual Trunk or Treat event. Again this is a free community event for children to come out in costume and collect some goodies, play some games and eat some free food.

Octoberfest at Saint Joan of Arc

Oktoberfest will be held by St Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus Council 6693 on Saturday, October 12th, 2019 from 12 noon until 7 p.m. at the school parking lot at 359 W Areba Ave, Hershey, PA.
The menu will be bratwurst or hot dogs and kraut, fried potato pancakes, soft pretzels, Apple Strudel and Funnel Cakes. Barrel Root beer and Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer on draft. Music throughout the day and entertainment by the Happy Slovenes from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eat in or carry out available.

Hershey Area Art Association annual Under the Colors Art Show and Sale will be October 19th and 20th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Community Room of the Hershey Historical Society. The show features both fine art and visual art. This is a perfect opportunity to jump start your holiday shopping.

On Saturday, November 2nd at the Hershey Lodge, approximately 300 guests will enjoy an evening celebrating our work to keep families together. Calling all flappers and gangsters – changes are coming to this year’s event as we take you back in time to the Roaring Twenties for this Gin & Jazz themed evening. Attendees will party like Gatsby as they roam around a speakeasy and enjoy delectable food, drink “giggle water” and dance the Charleston.
