"Union Pacific and the YMCA are both long-standing drivers of prosperous and vibrant communities," said Danielle Uhlhorn, Chief Development Officer for the Eugene Family YMCA. "We are so pleased that Union Pacific is joining the community on this historic journey to build a flexible, modern new Y facility that will greatly enhance Lane County's community."
The Eugene Family YMCA received the $20,700 gift because of its demonstrated value as a special place that celebrates cultural diversity, artistic expression and the social interactions that enrich our lives.
"Union Pacific proudly supports organizations that improve the quality of life where our employees live and work," said Scott Moore, senior vice president-Corporate Relations, chief administrative officer and Union Pacific Foundation President. "Investing in high-quality, nonprofit programs like the Eugene Family YMCA puts our communities in a position for future growth and prosperity."
The Eugene Family YMCA plans to break ground on its 70,000-square-foot flagship facility in 2021. It will feature a fully ADA-accessible, flexible floor plan, a multi-generational activity center, a teaching kitchen, an expanded aquatics center and the addition of critical programs like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's support.
"Union Pacific is an excellent corporate citizen, recognizing that nonprofits such as the Y are essential to attracting businesses and tourism, and improving the quality of life in our community," said Eugene Family YMCA CEO Brian Steffen. "We are honored to partner with Union Pacific to continue our work to positively impact families and individuals through health and wellness programming, youth development services and social responsibility initiatives."
