Intern Impacts Heritage Area
through Pollinator Projects

In 2018-2019, Susquehanna NHA mentored Chesapeake Conservation Corps Member Amy Kochel. Amy's passion for rivers, streams, and the bugs that live in them offered many project options. She chose to work with York Academy Regional Charter School to create a pollinator garden at the school. She also created a pollinator garden at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage. We thank Amy for her hard work and great impact on our Heritage Area. We were proud to mentor her through the process.

Extraordinary Give for the River
Friday, November 22nd

Each year Susquehanna NHA welcomes thousands of visitors to the region, introduces hundreds of kids to the river, and offers dozens of programs to our community. We can't do it without your support. On Friday, November 22nd, you will have just 24 hours to donate to Susquehanna National Heritage Area. The more donations Susquehanna NHA receives, the farther it's stretched by the Lancaster County Community Foundation. It's a great opportunity for every dollar you donate to make an  extra impact on the river. Remember the Extraordinary Give is entirely  ONLINE so the best way to share is online and via email!

The Great Pumpkin Flood
On October 5th, 1786, heavy rain fall caused flooding along the Susquehanna River. The water rose 6-10 feet in the course of the day. When it did the water washed away crops. The most visible of which was the pumpkins floating down the river in the days following the flood.
