High quality, evidence-based, readily available, and free are some of the descriptors for the online modules described in this issue of Resources within
Reason. Modules can be a valuable resource for motivated learners in pursuit of information, professional development (PD) providers who are seeking content and examples, and faculty members looking for PowerPoints, activities,
assignments, and videos for online and face-to-face courses.

The
RPMs
are free modules developed for early care and education, early intervention, and early childhood special education faculty and PD providers. Each module supports the use of one of seven of the DEC Recommended Practice topic areas (interaction, transition, environment, teaming & collaboration, family, instruction, and assessment). They are interactive, multimedia and can be easily accessed, downloaded, and embedded in part or whole. Each module includes learning objectives, activities, videos, assignments, dilemmas, and more. The components are designed for the flexible use of individual parts or whole sequences. An
instructor area
offers supports and learning guides for each module. A video
introdu
ction
on navigating the modules is available.

Each I-LABS module explores a particular topic in child development, such as brain development, language acquisition, or imitation. Modules share evidence-based information about how young children learn. Each module includes a narrated sequence of slides, along with additional resources. Modules are all available in English, Spanish, Somali, and Vietnamese. When the module has been completed, learners have the option to request a certificate.

The practice-based modules are designed to build early childhood practitioners’ abilities to make evidence-based decisions. They emphasize a decision-making process, realistic problems to solve, the importance of integrating multiple perspectives and sources of evidence, the relevance and quality of content, and feedback. Each module begins by posing a dilemma for learners to consider, then offers key sources of evidence for making and evaluating a practice decision. Information is presented in a variety of formats including audio clips, easily downloadable video clips, and written resources. Modules are available on seven topics (e.g., embedded interventions, communication for collaboration, family-professional partnerships, assistive technology). All modules are available in English and Spanish; the module on embedded interventions is also available in Portuguese and Mandarin.
Dashboards (instructor menus) are provided for each module. They contain links to additional resources including activity guides, archived conversations with faculty members who have used the modules, and more. NOTE: The CONNECT modules have recently migrated to their new home on the DEC website.

The The Virginia Early Intervention PD Center offers free access to self-paced modules on a variety of early intervention topics (e.g., inclusion, prematurity, newborn hearing screening). Clear instructions on how to access the modules, technical requirements, and how to obtain a certificate of completion are provided on the website.
