Dear Residents -
This past Tuesday night, collectively as a town, we said farewell to Councilman Denis Troy. Denis served as a valuable member of the Town Board since 2000, and has been an immeasurable help to me over the last two years. While I hope Denis enjoys the extra time he will have with his family and friends, he is not really retiring as he has agreed to stay on as my Deputy Town Supervisor next year.
On Thursday, Orangetown opened the first Food Scrap Recycling Program in Rockland County. My assistant, Allison Kardon, with help from our friends over at Rockland Composters, worked tirelessly with RocklandGreen to get the program up and running. Most people do not know that food scraps are valuable materials that if properly collected and composted can greatly help reduce methane, a greenhouse gas, which is considered to be more damaging than carbon dioxide. For those of you like myself who dread the shorter daylight hours, there is light at the end of the tunnel. This coming Tuesday, December 21st, will be the shortest day of the year and, starting on Wednesday, we will start having a few minutes more of daylight each day.
Enjoy your weekend everyone and remember not to sweat the small stuff!
Respectfully,
