Lesson Module 2 - Physics
Physics
This module is a condensed Introduction to Physics . Physics is the study of matter and its properties as well the motion of matter and the cause of its motion. The major components of Physics are Mechanics, Heat, Sound, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, and Atomic structure. We will focus on the basics of Mechanics .

There will be a video demonstration at the start of each daily lesson. Each lesson will start with a short video lecture or a simulated lab exercise. Most days will have a brief assignment related to the video or lab simulation followed by an “Around the House” assignment in which each student will have an opportunity to do an activity involving items that can be found around the house.

The Geography module also has a new lesson added this week. We will add the final two days of lessons next week, along with hosting the virtual office hours with that instructor. Please explore these lessons as you like, or wait until next week to access them all together with the instructor available for support. As with all the AusPREP Online content, once lessons are posted, they will remain available for the entire summer.

Meet the Instructor
Hi, my name is Timothy Holland . I have been teaching Math, Chemistry, and Physics for 27 years. I am currently in my 9th year teaching at Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock. I teach AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C; also as part of the Cedar Ridge Engineering Academy, I teach Digital Electronics. This is my 12th year working with AUSPREP, for which I will be teaching Physics.

I really enjoy teaching Physics. To motivate students, I teach with energy and incorporate demonstrations into the lessons to make them more fun and interesting. My best moments in the classroom are hearing students respond to understanding a concept and seeing the look on their faces during a demonstration. My purpose is to continue to find ways to make teaching Physics easier and fun to learn.
Featured Resources
In addition to AusPREP Online, we are happy to connect participants to high-quality resources available from outside sources that will extend learning and enrichment. The links will also be accessible via the AusPREP homepage and here .

Smithsonian Learning Lab - The Smithsonian Learning Lab puts the treasures of the world's largest museum, education, and research complex within reach. The Lab is a free, interactive platform for discovering millions of authentic digital resources, creating content with online tools, and sharing in the Smithsonian's expansive community of knowledge and learning.

NASA STEM @ Home - Find crafting ideas, science experiments with household items and videos to watch as a family. Divide by age:

Make: Projects - Make: Projects is a site powered By ProjectBoard and is a joint venture between Make: and Engineering.com . They came together to connect and elevate those who create and problem solve through projects. Personalize project recommendation by interest categories. Projects for a wide range of ages and different material requirements.

PBS Kids Design Squad Global: Force and Energy - Activities are hands-on challenges that focus on the engineering design process. They use simple materials, allow for multiple solutions, and are ideal for ages 9-12.

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment Online Learning Hub - The Meadows Center’s new online learning hub features weekly educational videos and hands-on science activities that you can do at home, including Creature Features about their aquarium residents, At Home with Nature hands-on, nature-based activities that are educational, creative and entertaining, and Texas Aquatic Science lessons.
How to Access AusPREP Online
How to access AusPREP Online

We are using an online learning platform, Canvas, to host the AusPREP Online lesson modules. Some students may be familiar with this platform (Blend) from their home school districts.

Once registered, we will create an account on Canvas for this course for you. After the account is created, you will receive an email asking you to complete your registration and create a password for Canvas.

To return to the AusPREP Online course after your password has been created. You will use this portal , and select the login for AusPREP.

For families with multiple students wanting to access AusPREP Online, it is recommended you create separate accounts using different email addresses for each student to track progress through the course material. Please submit separate registration request for each student.

Please reach out to us if you have any issues logging on or accessing materials. We are here to help! Contact us at ausprep@htu.edu.
