January 24 - Last day to register/add

February 14 - Last day to drop without record
Hello,

We hope you all had a wonderful time at Orientation, and are enjoying your first week of class! Remember, it takes time to find your way across campus - make sure to ask around and use the signs to show you where everything is. People you should expect to depend on are your resident advisors, professors, academic advisers, and, of course, us! Every student, staff, and faculty member at Tulane is here to promote your success.

The spring brings change and new discoveries. Every student, regardless of how long they have been on campus, is starting something new this semester. The weather this year will be unpredictable: cold, rainy, and hot. Just like we can't always be prepared to face the weather, we can't be prepared for everything college and life throws our way. Nevertheless, we will face these together and come out on top.

As always, please reach out to us should you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Stop by to visit us in the Student Organization Center located in the LBC, give us a call at (504) 865-5180, or send us an email at orientation@tulane.edu.

Get Connected | Four Workshops - Attend One, Any, or All!
New students, let us help you get acclimated to Tulane! Get Connected is a four-week semi-structured workshop series for students who recently joined the Tulane University family including spring scholars, international students, and transfer students. Focus will be given on helping students acclimate  to the university and the city of New Orleans, connecting with campus partners who can  assist students as they adjust to their new environment, and creating  a space for engagement with other  new students.

Join us as we collectively work to build a community of continued support. Students are invited to drop in without feeling pressured to attend every week, and there is no need to register with CAPS.

Campus Services to Know | Service Wave
Service Wave is Tulane's work ticket management system, which allows us to track and manage issues in our buildings and facilities. Requests for services relating to campus buildings, recycling, and custodial should be made via Service Wave ( servicewave.tulane.edu).

When should you submit one? If you are having problems with lighting, electricity, plumbing, walls, water, locks/card readers, air conditioning, appliances, furniture broken, then Service Wave it! However, if you are locked out of your room, seek assistance at your 24-hour Residence Hall Desk or call the RA on Duty.

Students can also submit Service Wave requests for common spaces, including communal bathrooms and study spaces in the residence halls. This will provide them with a record that a ticket was put in and they will receive information about the request-when it was completed, what was done or if there's a delay due to a required part. Find more information here.

Welcome to Tulane, Spring Scholars!
Hey, Spring Scholars, it's your trusted NSLP project assistants, Anfernee (SLA '19) and Drew (SLA '19)! It was so good to meet you all during Spring Orientation; we're so glad you're here. You've probably heard a hundred times by now that Spring Scholars are a special group, and it's true. You've come to Tulane during one of the best times of the year: the weather is getting warmer (or it will, we promise), Mardi Gras is fast approaching, and festival season is right around the corner. You're also all members of a unique cohort. Some of you may have spent the fall abroad in Rome, completed a semester at Loyola, blazed your own trail elsewhere, or spent time   improving your professional skills at a job or internship. We're very proud, and it means a lot to us that you're here.

To help you as you settle in, we're complied a list of the best tips for Spring Scholars on everything from meeting new friends to choosing the right course.
  • If you haven't already, meet with your academic advisor! They are here to make sure you're on track, structure your course load, and help you graduate smoothly with no scary surprises. The last thing you want is to have to stay an extra semester because you forgot to take English 1010!
  • Get involved in your own way. That might seem easier said than done, but it's one of the most helpful things you can do to ground yourself at Tulane. Audition for a production or performance group! Go out for a sports team, write for our school newspaper, the Hullabaloo, or join an academic organization. The options are endless.
  • Be kind to yourself. It's very tempting to compare yourself with others, but it's also really unfair. You can't know for certain how other people are doing, even if they seem completely at peace. Everyone adjusts at their own rate, and to honor that in yourself is key to developing a healthy relationship with your new surroundings.
  • Reach out! Tulanians are some of the nicest folks around, so be a little brave. Ask that person who sits next to you in chem to work on the homework together. Strike up a conversation with an acquaintance in your organization. Go to your favorite professor's office hours. Building a solid network takes time, but you have to start somewhere. You never know what interesting characters you might meet!
