Area Studies Centers’ Diversity Speaker Series

Ohio State is taking a fresh look at the Black Lives Matter movement and how it relates to every facet of knowledge we engage in across all disciplines and from multiple cultural perspectives. The Office of International Affairs, in partnership with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and curated by the area studies centers, presents a series of events dedicated to exploring the links between the Black Lives Matter movement and the diverse communities around the globe. These events are intended to showcase different perspectives about the American racial struggle; to remind us of the interconnectedness of the contemporary world; and to spark reflection about the consequences of the tragic reality that some communities are treated as though they matter less than others.

As part of the strategic activities co-organized by The Center for Latin American Studies, The Abya Yala Student Organization at Ohio State University, and the Foro Permanente de Estudios, Investigación y Saberes Transdisciplinarios Ancestrales y la Organización the first series of conversations on "Andean-Amazon Memory and Health" was held. This experience was a journey, consisting of a series of exhibitions which result is reflected on a work of systematization and post-production material.

ODI's 4-part workshop series on Ohio Immigrants and Refugees

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), in partnership with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) and The Ohio Immigrant Alliance, has announced a 4-part virtual workshop series on Ohio Immigrants and Refugees: Lived Experiences, Mobilizing for Change. This series will convene throughout the month of October and feature guest panelists and keynote speaker Daniela Pierre-Bravo, TV producer for MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Critical Language Scholarship 2021 Application Now Open!

Applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for intensive language study abroad in summer 2021. The CLS Program is a fully-funded intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying one of 15 critical languages, Portuguese included. Applications are due Tuesday, November 17, 2020 by 8:00pm EST.

Pachaysana Workshop Series- Reflection on Workshop #1

The reflection on Workshop #1 will take place on October 9 from 9:30-10:30 AM. Later on in the afternoon will also be a special workshop on Identidad y Pacha. This Spanish-language workshop will link the traditions, practices, and oral memory of Andean peoples to our current lived realities, and puts theory to practice by offering tools that help us engage the natural world and our communities with new perspectives.

Although it is encouraged, you do not need to participate in every workshop of the series. See below a full list of workshop sessions:
