From the President:

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The summer heat may be slipping away, but we're just getting warmed up for autumn here at NHDHA!  Instead of mourning for the beach days and backyard BBQs that have come and gone, now is an excellent time to be grateful for the coming season.  Albert Camus said, "Autumn is a second spring, when every leaf is a flower," and this is especially true here in beautiful New Hampshire.  The breathtaking foliage, cozy sweaters, cups of cocoa, and fresh-picked apples are right around the corner.  We hope you'll take some time to enjoy it all with us!
We have an exciting lineup of continuing education courses scheduled throughout the coming months.  The basic details can be found below, but be sure to visit nhdha.org for more information on these great events.
  • We'll kick off the fall CE season on Wednesday, September 18th in Whitefield with "Coding 101 - Why Are CDT Codes Important to You?" presented by LeaAnne Haney, Christa Keddie, and Stacy Plourde.
    • Next, you're invited to join us for our Fall Symposium, "Inflammatory Diseases: It's Not Just Perio Anymore," presented by Lory Laughter at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester.  The event takes place on Saturday, October 5th and will include breakfast, exhibitor presentations, and our annual business meeting, in addition to Lory's fantastic presentation.
        • On Thursday, October 17th, NHDHA will be in Concord with two CE courses in one night!  We'll start out with "Is Your Office in Compliance?" with Erin Kierce (THIS COURSE DOES NOT SATISFY THE 2CEU INFECTION CONTROL REQUIREMENT), followed by a presentation on the dental professional's role in preventing HPV cancers, courtesy of Jenna Schiffelbein.
    • Last but certainly not least, John Echternach's always-popular "SDF for the Dental Team" course is coming to Somersworth on Thursday, November 7th.
On behalf of our entire Board of Trustees, we wish you a happy fall and look forward to seeing you at our upcoming CE courses!

NHBODE/Dental Hygiene Committee

In April of this year, Myra Nikitas was welcomed to the Dental Hygiene Committee as a new member.    Myra has been in the dental field for close to 20 years. At the start of her career she was a dental office manager, then became a chair side dental assistant.  With her passion for dentistry she continued on to receiving her Associates degree in Science with a major in Dental Hygiene, from New Hampshire Technical Institute in 2005.  She later completed her certifications to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide in 2010.  She is an experienced and compassionate clinician who makes patient care a priority. She often volunteers to do presentations for local schools in her town to promote Dental Hygiene, and the importance to our overall health. She currently is a board member on the Nashua Dental Connection, and works full time at a private practice in Nashua, New Hampshire. Myra's compassion, ambition, and warm demeanor have made her a successful practitioner and well respected within the dental community.

At the beginning of this month, Myra was voted in as the new chairperson for the Dental Hygiene Committee.  Congratulations Myra!

Prescription Writing Update!

As we mentioned last fall, Senate Bill 377 took effect on August 24, 2018. It includes expansion of RSA317-A;21 c which now allows the administration, prescription and dispensing of a fluoride supplement, topically applied fluoride and chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse as dental hygieine service.
The rule package has been submitted and we expect to finally be able to write the above prescriptions in mid 2020.
In order to be able to write prescriptions a Hygienist will be required to have an NPI number and current CPR certification.  We will likely be required to carry private liability insurance.  Liability coverage by a Hygienist's employer will not be sufficient. Please visit the  ADHA Website for information on private liability insurance offered to members.
