Girls Basketball Sets New Program Mark for Wins

The Arete Prep Girls Varsity Basketball team made the long trip to Duncan, AZ worthwhile, as they set a new program record for wins in a season. They equaled the current mark (12) last Wednesday, with a 39-14 region win vs. NFL YET. The win over the Wildkats  moved the Chargers to 13-4, which includes a third place finish in the Chandler Prep New Years Classic. The Chargers are also looking to qualify for their first AIA State Tournament, and with a strong region finish, should do so. The team is led by Coach Jake Howell, and Captains Mariah Dominguez and Hannah Howell.

Point guard Dominguez (2nd team all region as a freshman in '19) is averaging double figures and provides the Chargers with a strong court sense. Fellow sophomore Alissa Kassebaum is a double double threat who was also a 2nd team all region performer as a freshman in '19. With the deepest bench in team history and a strong group of freshmen, the future looks bright for Arete Prep girls basketball!

The next home date is 1/28 vs. region leading Fort Thomas.

The varsity boys also picked up a big win over Duncan, helping their 1A state playoff chances. The 47-44 win moved the Chargers to 3-1 in the region and 7-6 overall. Next up for the boys, is a trip to Santa Cruz on Wednesday. All three teams take another long road trip to Cibecue on 10/24.
