A Letter from our Executive Director
As summer has turned to fall in this unusual year, I’m thankful to live in a community of generous people. While so much has changed for all of us, the core value of generosity has not. Thank you to each of you who have already made a commitment to this year’s United Way giving campaign. I’d also like to invite others to join us. The fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community IS NOT OVER. Your help is needed more than ever.

We’ve made some great videos this year to showcase the work that is going on in our community: from extra dollars raised and results achieved from our COVID-19 Relief Fund to the work that continues year after year in our Health Impact Area.

Please help us spread the word about the generosity of our community by inviting a friend, family member or neighbor to give in this year’s campaign. donations can be made at www.uwaykpt.org/give or through your workplace campaign. Checks can also be mailed to UWGK, 301 Louis Street, Suite 201, Kingsport, TN 37660.

Help us Respond, Recover, Reimagine, and Rebuild a Greater Kingsport.

United We’re Strong!

Danelle Glasscock
Executive Director

The United Way of Greater Kingsport supports the Boy Scouts through the Youth Development Program. This program teaches participants life-long skills and values. They acquire the skills they need to make the right choices, meet challenges and overcome them. Youth learn today what will sustain them tomorrow. Read the full article here.

This year, we asked businesses and community members across the region to "Reduce, Re-wear, and Repost". Previous years’ Week of Caring volunteers were asked to re-wear their vintage T-shirts, and community members were encouraged to post photos on social media under the hashtags to highlight the longstanding partnerships that WOC facilitates between local businesses and nonprofits. A few organizations were able to find socially-distant, outdoor activities to continue with the spirit of the original event. You can read full article here.
This month brought several celebrations and transitions for your UWGK staff. Susan LaGuardia, Emily Merritt, and Becca Sutphen all celebrated 5 years of service with UWGK, while Danelle Glasscock marked her 10 year anniversary milestone.

The UWGK staff and volunteers also came together via Zoom to wish Susan LaGuardia a happy retirement as she culminates her decades-long career in service to the Greater Kingsport community. Prior to coming to UWGK, Susan served as the Executive Director of Kingsport Tomorrow for over 10 years in addition to her many years of volunteer community service and advocacy. Best wishes on a happy retirement, Susan!

Finally, Emily Merritt was promoted to the newly-created role of Director of Communications & Education. In this new position, Emily will continue to provide her leadership in our fight for the education of children & youth in our community, will grow our public-facing education on trauma-informed care, ALICE, and more, and will lead the strategic organizational communications for UWGK.

Congratulations to everyone on their accomplishments and dedicated service to UWGK and our community!
