Blessing of the Backpacks will take place Sunday, August 16th as part of our Water Communion Service. We bless the backpacks of the children in our congregation to help them start their school year with the love and support of their church community. Children should have their backpacks handy during the service so we can do our virtual blessing together.

The Norelma Walker Youth Library Summer Reading Celebration! Saturday, August 8 from 10 to 11 AM in the UUCF parking lot Drive through and pick up your reward goodies! On Saturday, August 8 you will receive a $10 gift certificate to Petunia’s Place book store, a goody bag of cookies and a choice from a couple of books to take home in celebration of your participation in the Norelma Walker Youth Library Summer Reading Program 2020. Parents, load your Summer Reader into your car on August 8 and follow the arrow to drive through the parking lot of UUCF between 10 and 11 A.M. You will see a pop-up tent with Norelma Walker Youth Library volunteers waiting in the shade. A volunteer will give you the Petunia’s Place gift certificate and the cookies. The volunteer will offer a choice of two reward books from which to choose. We will place these in your car trunk or give them to you directly, as you choose. If your Summer Reader wishes to share their Reading Log and ratings with the volunteer, that will be fun, however reading just one book this summer qualifies the Summer Reader to receive the reward, and we operate on an honor system. Faith in Film Series: East Side Sushi
Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 10 am OR Thursday, Aug 13 at 7 pm
Facilitated by Rev. Tim Kutzmark. Join Rev. Tim for a showing of “East Side Sushi,” a delightful feature film that explores race, identity, and determination. Juana can slice and dice anything with great speed and precision. After working at a fruit-vending cart for years, she decides to take a job at a local Japanese restaurant. Intrigued by the food, she learns to make a multitude of sushi on her own, fusing it with her own Mexican-American culture. When she attempts to become a sushi chef, she is shut down since she is the ‘wrong’ race and gender. Against all odds, Juana embarks on a journey of self-discovery, determined to not let anyone stop her from achieving her dream. If your finances permit, order sushi for take-out or delivery to enhance your experience. If circumstances don’t, just let Rev. Tim know and the sushi will be his treat and will be delivered.
