CGS Weekly: August 9, 2020
THIS SUNDAY MORNING
Join us for worship this Sunday, August 9, in one of three ways:

1.) Drive-In Service beginning promptly at 9:30am. As of Friday afternoon, approximately 75 of the 100 available parking spots have been reserved. If you have not reserved a spot yet, you may do so here. We will be sending out another update Saturday evening with the number of available parking spots remaining. If you're coming to the drive-in service, please remember the following:
  • Please use the entrance on the north side of the building (closest to Pickett Rd) when arriving. Our deacons will direct you to a parking spot based on your arrival time and vehicle profile.
  • Please remain in your cars, unless you need to use the restroom (see below).
  • The downstairs restrooms will be accessible through the lower level entrance. However, all other areas of the building will be inaccessible. In addition, masks are required while using the restrooms.
  • Our Nursery & Children's Ministry staff has worked hard preparing some materials that we will have available for your little ones as you drive in. Here are some additional tips for parents of nursery-aged children and parents of pre-school aged children.
  • For more in-depth info about logistics for Sunday's drive-in service, you may review the letter we sent out earlier this week here.

2.) Livestream broadcast. For those of you who prefer to worship at home or are unable to attend the drive-in service, will be live-streaming the service at 9:30am here.

3) Recording on website. If you're unable to tune into our livestream, we will be posting a recording of the service here as soon as it's available.

Click here for some reflections from Pastor Chuck regarding the heart behind our worship format for this weekend.

You may view a copy of the bulletin for this week's service here. You may view Kids' Notes here. As a reminder, you may give to CGS online here. (If you have questions, you may reference this online giving tutorial here.) You may also mail a check to the church (3741 Garrett Rd, Durham, NC 27707) if you prefer.

Our Sermon Discussion Guide will go out on Sunday afternoon this week. Discussion questions are for both individuals and community groups.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parent-Teacher Conversations Webinar
This school year brings challenges that both parents and teachers have never faced before. There are no “right” answers, though everyone is seeking to provide the best education as safely as possible. We want to provide meaningful support for both our parents and teachers in our congregation.

On August 19 from 7:45-9:15pm, we will host a webinar where parents can address the concerns and questions they are facing with veteran teachers whom they trust—teachers who worship together with them at CGS. While we also want to hear about the teachers’ challenges, the webinar will primarily focus on your questions and concerns. We will meet on Zoom as both a large group and in breakout groups focusing on elementary, middle, high school, and special education. We will close the webinar by spending time praying together for the teachers and the parents attending.

Register here for the webinar. Please email schools@cgsonline.org to submit any questions that you would like us to address in the webinar.

Access the Zoom meeting here on August 19.

Global Outreach Spotlight
Meet: J & K
J & K, and the youngest three of their six children, are serving in West Africa with MTW, where J leads a team in identifying, training, and mobilizing nationals in the first urban church-planting effort in their Muslim-majority city. Outreach platforms include university ministry and a business development center. Formerly the senior pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian church for 17 years, J is also the chairman of the West Africa Reformed Mission (WARM), with which CGS partners.
Pray: For J & K as they have been blessed with the money to buy a house for students that will also serve as the location for their church. Please pray for the building negotiations to go smoothly and for the safety of the students while they await their new home.
Connect: Contact Shelley Thompson to receive a link to J & K’s newsletter.
Men's Bible Study Meeting Virtually
Our Friday morning Men's Bible Study is meeting virtually via Zoom for the foreseeable future at 7:00am each Friday. If anyone who is not currently involved with the Men's Bible Study wants more information, they can email Joseph Scanlon or Norman Acker.
