 New Peruvian Arctic Research Vessel to Feature Kongsberg's Integrated Subsea Solutions.
The Peruvian Navy has selected Kongsberg Maritime to deliver an integrated subsea technology systems package, including two HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), for its new hydrographic and oceanographic research vessel.
The 97m-long vessel, BAP Carrasco, is being constructed at Construcciones Navales P Freire shipyard in Spain, and was launched on 7 May this year. Naval Technology

An agreement between the federal government and Nunavut's electricity corporation settles any energy concerns to power a $250-million Arctic research station in time for its opening, says the Canadian High Arctic Research Station's chief engineer. The research station is currently under construction in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, where it is expected to double the power requirements in the community of 1,700. CBC News
 Defense Spending Bill is Heavy with Arctic and Alaska Interests.
A defense spending bill moving through the U.S. Senate is heavy on Arctic priorities and Alaska-focused military spending. The Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously moved the fiscal year 2017 appropriations bills for Defense and Homeland Security through the full committee Thursday, giving the funding a bipartisan boost as lawmakers aim to fund the government committee by committee. 'Spicy' Ocean Levels Could Spell Trouble for Marine Mammal Hunting.
The Arctic Ocean is getting spicier. A new study published in the Journal of Physical Oceanography suggests that rising temperatures in the far north could result in warmer, saltier water, or what's know as spicier water. This could make marine mammal hunting off Alaska's coast more dangerous. Alaska Public Radio

Bridging the Future of Arctic Social Science Research, September 23-24, 2016 (Monticello, Virginia, USA).
The event is sponsored by Arctic Horizons. The event will reassemble the members of the National Steering Committee and a small but diverse selection of representatives from the five regional workshops, to total about 15 people. The aim will be to identify and synthesize the core threads of the previous workshops and public contributions proffered between workshops. The target output for the workshop will be a final report draft and outline of steps leading to the final report release in June 2016. The Jefferson Institute will manage production of the publication.
