The City of Salisbury has grants for your exterior repairs, for business development and for historic preservation. The grants are a type of financial aid that does not need to be repaid. Businesses are encouraged to apply!

Downtown Salisbury Revitalization
|
|
The program is a package of four (4) grants, any or all of which may be utilized by a developer depending on the nature and scope of the project:
- Building Renovation Incentive Grant covers 25% of eligible costs (up to $50,000) for the stabilization and preservation of older, primarily historic properties.
- Residential Production Incentive Grant offers $7,500 per residential unit created or upgraded (where project costs exceed $35/gross sf2) to promote downtown residences.
- Residential Utilities Incentive Grant covers 50% of eligible costs (up to $25,000) for the installation or upgrade of water utilities where project costs exceed $5,000.
- Fire Suppression Grant covers 50% of fire line costs or $2/sf2 (up to $25,000) for sprinkler system installation.

The adaptive reuse of the historic Bernhardt Hardware building to main-floor retail and second-story residential units is a prime example of the Downtown Salisbury Revitalization Grant in action!

Salisbury City Council approved five (5) Revitalization Grant applications at its August 20, 2019 meeting, representing an enormous leap forward in downtown vibrancy, economic development, and a milestone in private investment!

Innes Street Improvement
and
Municipal Service District Grants
|
|
The MSD Incentive Grant and the Innes Street Improvement Grant are very similar programs. Your eligibility for one or the other depends on the location of your property.
The Innes Street Improvement Grant assists property and business owners within the Innes Street Improvement District, while the MSD Incentive Grant assists those within the Downtown Municipal Service District. The grants cover enhancements to building façades, landscapes, driveways, and parking lots. These projects can range from minor repairs and repainting to substantial façade and landscape rehabilitation projects and the installation of new pedestrian amenities such as outdoor seating, planters, awnings, café fences, and lighting.

Applications may be submitted at any time but funds are limited each year, starting July 1st. Grants are awarded for eligible projects as funds are available. The grant is typically awarded on a 50/50 matching basis with a maximum City participation of $5,000.00 per project. This is a reimbursement grant. Funds are issued at the completion and final inspection and approval of the project.

Carvana $35M
Concord-Based Facility
Bringing 300+ jobs
|
|
Carvana Co.
(NYSE: CVNA), known for its car vending machines, is seeking to build a 304-job, $35 million facility in Concord. Concord City Council recently approved $428,400 in grants for Project Wavy, affiliated with Carvana LLC. The three-year grant from the city is performance-based, meaning the company is required to make its investments and pay taxes before it will be eligible for any incentive payments.

, the re-branded name for the former
Philip Morris
site. A proposed agreement with Cabarrus County indicates Project Wavy would up-fit an existing structure at the site instead of developing a new building but plans to increase the size and install new fixtures and equipment. The Carvana facility, should it be developed there, likely would occupy only a portion of the entire Philip Morris site, which is about 2,000 acres.

Concord-Padgett Regional Airport
Plans to Expand
|
|
Allegiant Air is adding its sixth Florida flight in November. The airport also has a regular flight to the New Orleans area. Concord may consider expanding its relatively new commercial terminal to make room for even more flights for the ultra-low-cost airline. When Allegiant Air (NASDAQ: ALGT) adds the flight to West Palm Beach, Florida, on November 14
th, fares can be as low as $54 each way.

th year, the annual
BUSKERS-BASH is a favored downtown event. Over 40 street performers line our downtown streets with their official bright orange Busker-Buckets. You, as attendee, get a Pick-Pack with (5) custom Buskers-Bash guitar picks and a walking map showing the locations of each performer. Vote for your favorite by tossing a guitar pick into their bucket. Votes are counted at 8pm, and the winners are announced at a Grand Finale at
City Tavern at 9pm. Shops and restaurants are open late, offering fun Buskers-Bash specials. The historic
Trolley will be running for those who prefer to ride to all the varied busker locations.

BlockWork 2019

BlockWork
program, now in its 9th year, brings residents and volunteers together to build cleaner and safer neighborhoods, one block at a time. Working together with property owners, residents, city staff and other groups, projects include carpentry, painting, landscaping and general clean-up in a one-block area.
Volunteers help preserve the beauty and charm of this year's
BlockWork neighborhood - the 900 block of North Main Street. To
