PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT - PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Each week, we will be highlighting one of our programs or offering resources for parents to illustrate The Radcliffe Way!

Families play an important role when it comes to helping students practice the knowledge and skills they learn in classrooms outside of school. Similar to their academic subjects like Reading and Math, what a child learns about in Physical Education needs to be practiced and reinforced at home. From physical fitness and wellness, to food and beverage options, how a parent views and addresses physical activity and healthy eating can have a lifelong impact on a child.

It's crucial for children's minds and bodies to be active everyday. With the increasing reliance on technology and how easily accessible it is, it's not difficult for kids to rely on video games and screens for entertainment. Help your children figure out ways to get outside and be active. Even if they are not into sports, that doesn't mean they have to be "glued to the tube." This article from Rally Health gives some interesting insight into how screen time affects students' health.

This year, every student in Physical Education class will be setting fitness goals. Fitness goals are great opportunities to get students motivated and to share what they've learned in PE with you. As a family, you can also set effective goals that are specific and achievable. For example, you can set a goal to walk for 30 minutes a day, three times a week. It can also be a short term goal or challenge. As a family, run/walk 30 miles in 30 days or do a simple activity that can be completed in an evening like playing catch or tag in the backyard. Making it part of the evening routine is a great way to make it a habit.

RADCLIFFE REACH EXTENSION PROGRAM

Looking for enriching after school options for your child? The Radcliffe Reach Extension Program is now available as an option for all Radcliffe students from 3:10 to 5:30. The Radcliffe Reach Extension Program (RREP) is a great option for your child to complete homework, get homework help from teachers, and participate in group classes which are suited to students' interests and strengths. Classes are organized monthly and posted here for students selection. To learn more about options and pricing for the RREP please visit our website.

For our Extensi on Program to operate smoothly, pre-registration is critical and allows us to know the number of students to expect. If you would like to change the dates/hours that you have signed up for, Radcliffe Creek must be contacted as soon as possible. As always, it is  imperative that any student who remains in school after hours have all the necessary forms completed and turned in to the school.

Students work on the rough draft of the Community Mural Project that will be completed by Radcliffe Reach students in downtown Chestertown.
Anya works on baking French bread pizza for the Radcliffe Reach snack.
Students begin working on a year-long boatbuilding project that will be incorporated into the Radcliffe Reach program.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE/ OT SERVICES

Be on the lookout for Speech-Language and OT permission forms coming home.  Please sign and return these forms as soon as possible so that your child can begin Speech-Language and/or OT soon!!
OPEN HOUSE

Saturday, September  21st, 2019, Radcliffe Creek School will hold an Open House from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm.
