It was good to see you at the August membership meeting where we heard Shelley Wagner discuss
Dementia in the Elderly- What Their Behaviors Tell Us .  The slides from her presentation are now available on the MASWA website. 

We're looking forward to seeing you again at the next membership  meeting on Thursday, September 26th where  Aisha Elmquist, Ombudsman Specialist for Minnesota's Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care, will be defining the role and duties of this office as well common issues addressed.

The Fall Aging Conference set for Thursday, October 24th is also quickly approaching and registration is now open!  We're excited about another great event this year and invite you to come early and enjoy the music of Al!ve & K!ck!n that morning.  Check out this inspiring group at the link below!

Ombudsman 101
Presented by:
Aisha Elmquist
Aisha Elmquist, Ombudsman Specialist for Minnesota's Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care, will be defining the role and duties of this office as well common issues addressed.
Objectives:
  • The role and duties of the Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care ("OOLTC")
  • Common issues OOLTC handles and related laws and regulations
  • Consumers who can benefit from working with OOLTC
Speaker:
Aisha Elmquist is the Ombudsman Specialist for Minnesota's Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care. In this role, she focuses on policy issues affecting consumers who receive long-term care services. Prior to joining the Office, Aisha held a Borchard Fellowship in Law and Aging and represented older adults who had experienced discrimination. She was a litigation attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis, Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP, and Fox Rothschild LLP. She clerked for Chief Judge John R. Tunheim of the United States District Court, District of Minnesota. Aisha holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and a B.A. from Carleton College.
