In this week's E-Herald edition:

  • Scripture for this upcoming Sunday
  • Study, Prayer, and Open Discussion on Sanctuary
  • Upcoming Events
  • Birthdays for the upcoming week
The grumbling of the Pharisees and the scribes in today's gospel is actually our holy hope: This Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them. That our God wills to seek and to save the lost is not only a holy hope, it is our only hope. As Paul's first letter to Timothy reminds us, "The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." Thanks be to God.

Study, Prayer, and Open Discussion
in Week 2 of 3 of a Series on Sanctuary
August's Church Council meeting a discussion was held about the ELCA’s declaration of being a Sanctuary church. Their were questions about the vagueness, the legalities and definition of “Sanctuary”.
According to the ELCA, it is up to the individual churches to decide if we are “Sanctuary”.
The Advent Church Council desires to have time of thoughtful conversation, study, and prayer with the congregation. Therefore, the congregation is encouraged to read and ponder the materials already provided at AdventELC.org/cwa, pray, and attend each week of this intentional time of study and open discussion led by Pastor Layne. We will continue this class on September 15, and 22 in the Fellowship Hall from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

The topics each week will focus on...
  • How do we have a crucial conversation?
  • What do the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions have to say about the role of government and the church?
  • Where do we go from here? the ELCA, AMMPARO, and AdventELC

We hope you will come. If you cannot attend and wish to see the presentations and handouts, go to AdventELC.org/sanctuary.
#BeLikeBeckie
Last week we talked in worship about how being a disciple means to embody the life that Jesus has for you. Everyone was given a sticker with the picture of Beckie and the challenge to #BeLikeBeckie in your own, God-given ways. Have you done that this week?

Fun and Fellowship
Blessing of the Animals
October 6, 4:00pm
Come one come all for an afternoon of praise, prayers and pets!

All creatures great and small are welcome to a wonderful, worshipful creation celebration outside in the grass on Sunday, October 6 from 4-5pm behind AdventELC's parking lot. After the short worship service a pastor will around and personally ask for God’s blessings and favor upon your animals!
We do ask that you use your good judgement on whether or not your animal will do well in an environment filled with other animals. If you don't think your pet will do well, please come anyway! Perhaps bring a picture of your pet from your phone and the pastor will pray for that pet then and there, trusting that God knows where your pet is ;)

Pet Food donations will be collected and will go straight to Lutheran Social Services Food Pantries to help people care for their furry and feathery friends.
The Women's Bible study group will be starting a new series on September 10. It is a six week series called What Ever.
It concerns keeping our hearts in tune with whatever life brings. There are two sections to every lesson. One is "for you and the girls" and the other is "just for you and God".
What Ever...
Sept. 24  Is Noble. Whatever is right.
Oct. 8    Is Pure
Oct. 22   Is Lovely
Nov. 12   Is Admirable
Nov. 26   Is Excellent or Praiseworthy
Everyone is welcome. We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:00 in the sanctuary.
Contact Julie Page, 614-519-1014 with any questions.

The Men’s SALT ( Sharing And Living Together) group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the church. The purpose of this ministry is to bring men together in fellowship so they can grow in their understanding of Christ, get to know each other better and develop deeper relationships. Contact Will Saunders with any questions.

All men are welcome to join!
