September 2019: News, Events, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

Letter from CASA Executive Director Angela Rose

Dear CASA Volunteers:

Happy September! I hope you all are enjoying the last hot afternoons and the first crisp mornings of the year.

With summer in the rear view mirror and the school year in full swing, we've taken the turn toward the end of 2019. That means 2020 is on the horizon and as you know, CASA has a vision - VISION 2020 - to serve every child in the Pikes Peak Region that needs us by the end of 2020!

We need some help recruiting more volunteers so we can meet this goal. If each existing volunteer recruited ONE friend or family member to do this important work, we'd meet our goal. Just imagine... Every child that needs an advocate gets one.

We have two Volunteer Information Sessions coming up - one for Teller County on Sept. 27 and another for Colorado Springs on Oct. 2. Please share these events with friends and loved ones as they are truly fantastic opportunities to learn about what it means and what it takes to be a CASA volunteer.

We are staying busy here as we prepare for Light of Hope Teller and Light of Hope North, and a new advocate training class which began last week.

Please note the CASA office will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14 for Indigenous Peoples' Day and on Monday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me any time at angelar@casappr.org.

Sincerely,
Angela

Free Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) programs

Do you have a youth on your case who could benefit from Equine Assisted Learning?

With its 39,000 square foot indoor riding arena, Flying Horse Foundation serves and supports at-risk and under-served individuals and offers them the opportunity to learn life skills year-round, at no cost.

The group's Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) program has a social and emotional functionary focus and youth can move through four phases of classes.

Transportation may also be provided. Contact Jill at jillc@casappr.org for registration forms.

Thank you volunteers for helping with the building!

Several CASA volunteers recently completed maintenance jobs around the office which saved us a great deal of money.

A Huge THANK YOU goes out to Jim Campbell, Phil Cline, Cynthia Foreman, Joe Foreman, and Steve Keefer for pitching in!

We appreciate your dedication to CASA!
Save the Date: Colo. CASA State Conference is 11/2

Join us on November 2 from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM for the annual Colorado CASA State Conference!

This is a great opportunity to network with other CASA volunteers and staff, learn from inspiring keynote and breakout speakers, hear from a CASA volunteer and youth panel, participate in best practice sharing, and more!

Pick up your Volunteer Gift Bag!

If you didn't make it out to our Volunteer Appreciation Event last month, you can still drop by the office to pick up your gift bag! It even has a cool baseball cap featuring the CASA 30-year logo. Come and get 'em!
CASA may now submit requests on CarePortal!

Many of you are familiar with CarePortal already. If you're not - it's an online platform that brings the needs of hurting children and families into local communities by making local churches aware of needs and giving them an opportunity to respond.

If you have a need for a child you serve that cannot be met through Milton Foster Children's Fund, The Kid's Closet, The Hanger or other community resources, please reach out to Kristina Wrobleski to see if you can get assistance through CarePortal.
Love CASA? Help us achieve a "Top-Rated" status!

In order to be included on this year's Top-Rated Nonprofit List on the Great Nonprofits website, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region needs 10 (ten) ratings (4+ stars). Our last day to achieve this goal is October 31. Want to help us get there? Click here to write a review with at least 4 or 5 stars.
