Resident Spotlight
Eddie Woods

Eddie  Woods served in the US Army from 1957 - 1959. Shortly after serving  Eddie  worked for the New York City Police Department for 2 0  years in 3 "A" precincts working in high crime areas, always  by himself, often on foot. H e had no radio and would have to use a Call Box, which requires foot cops to make "rings" every hour to report to the Sergeant. After working for 6 years as a Radio Motor Patrol officer,  Eddie was promoted to Sergeant  and  retired after 20 years of service.

From 1981 - 2003,  Eddie  worked for the US Post Office (USPS), which he found more stressful than working for the Police Department. After working for  23  years at the post office in Lake Mary, FL,  Eddie  moved to Victoria Gardens along with his wife Linda Woods in 2004.

He was able to enlist and serve in Military Reserve Duty in USAR and later in AFNG, for 22 years. (a week-end warrior!) Was in Intelligence and counter intelligence units. Lastly, served as Base Security Manager, Steward AF Base.

In 2002,  Eddie  joined the Northeast FL 10-13 Club. A club made up of retired NYCPD members and served in positions such as President and Vice-President. Currently, he is the editor of the 10-13 Newsletter, website and is responsible for emails to all members. For 16 years  Eddie  has been the Pension Rep for survivors of all deceased club members, assisting them with all benefits that they deserve.

With the help of Victoria Gardens Club Manager CJ Hamlin,  Eddie  is able to run the
10-13 Club website, which has come quite popular.

Visit  www.nefl1013.com  to view daily postings.

The team at Victoria Gardens would like to thank  Eddie  Woods for his service and congratulate him on being our Resident Spotlight of the week.

Attention Victoria Gardens Residents!

Do you like to quilt/sew/knit/crochet? Then come & join the Sew & Sews any Wednesday morning (9am-12pm) in the craft room at the clubhouse. We also go out for lunch on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Pictured are some members of the group enjoying a weekend quilting retreat in the multi-purpose room.
Library Volunteer Committee

Thank you for book donations…..HOWEVER, just a reminder that with the limited size of our library we cannot take/keep books that have a copy write date before 2010. Also we cannot take religious or text books, and magazines need to be the current or previous month only. We also cannot accept collections of specific subjects or authors. These kinds of books are happily accepted by the Deland and Lk. Helen libraries. Please do not leave these items for our volunteers to deal with. Our volunteers put considerable time and effort into keeping out library current and looking good, and we would appreciate your help in observing our donation policies.

Thank you.

Enlightened Health
Five and a half years ago the unthinkable happened: the Abbotts got TWO diagnoses of cancer in the same couple in the SAME week. Come hear how Victoria Gardens resident Peggy Moulton-Abbott overcame the dreaded auto-immune disease and became a cancer conqueror. Using her background in pharmaceutical marketing research and broadcast journalism, she’s invested approximately 5,000 hours of her time into learning the secret keys to health that most people will never discover. Join us to learn the 5 pillars of achieving and maintaining vibrant health.

Our objectives will be to:
- enable the mind, body and spirit to function at their highest level
- create a fully-functioning immune system that identifies problems before disease develops and protects our bodies without turning on itself.

We’ll explore the key components including: spiritual/emotional issues, bodily essentials, external factors, alternative health modalities, and the need for personal accountability to achieve health goals.

This adventure will include:
- personal anecdotes
- spiritual encouragement
- scientific facts and research
- exercise you won’t hate
- toxins that cause disease and how to avoid them
- tastings of delicious
- nutritious, guilt-free foods that actually build health
-practical application of “quick fix” strategies to achieve success.

The first session is free and open to all. At subsequent sessions we will ask a $5.00 donation (club membership fee) to cover the cost of subscriptions to research, water and food, printing of reference materials, and field trips.

Let me know what, if anything else, you need from me.

Be blessed and be well!

MUSIC AT THE GARDENS

Do you enjoy singing, being part of a musical production or playing an instrument in a small group? Maybe you’d like to try and have some fun! There are several opportunities that are available right now.

VeeGees

Singers are always welcome for small groups or the larger choral group which perform for special events and a holiday concert. Production help is needed in the areas of lighting (particularly spotlight), stage manager and crew. Piano accompanists are always welcome.

Instrumental Group

A new instrumental group is being formed. Brush the dust off your instrument! There is a need for a drummer, a string bass player and trumpet player.

If any of these opportunities spark an interest and you would like more information, please contact Deane Booth, Director of Music for the VeeGees at boothmusic@cfl.rr.com.

Card Games & Groups

COME PLAY DUPLICATE
 BRIDGE!

Wednesday | 1 p.m.

Seeking new and experienced players to join us. For those new to duplicate, the same hands are played at each table and scoring is based on relative performance. In this way, every hand, whether strong or weak, is played in competition with others playing identical cards, and the element of skill is heightened while that of chance is reduced . In other words, if you get a good or bad hand, so do the other players. It is fun to compare how others played the same hand.

Stop by (usually in the multi-purpose room) any Wednesday between 1 and 4 p.m. to meet the players and sign up to be called when players are needed. You are invited to join us!
