2020 Session Rings In
The 2020 Legislative Session kicked off this week with new leadership and the expectation of an aggressive agenda of issues. Newly elected Senate President Bill Ferguson joins Speaker Adrienne Jones in offering new legislative leadership, both in their first session in the role. Meanwhile, school funding continues to grab attention as topic #1, but transportation infrastructure, environmental issues, the state’s fiscal plan, and other topics will claim their share of the 90-day spotlight in the weeks ahead.

Corporate Partner Corner

MACo's Bronze Corporate Partner Panasonic is partnering with Maryland native, 5-time Olympic gold medalist, and 15-time World Champion Swimmer Katie Ledecky to launch STEM education program, targeted toward educating middle school students.

At Panasonic's Tech Talk during CES 2020, five-time Olympic gold medalist and 15-time World Champion swimmer Katie Ledecky along with Panasonic of North America announced the launch of her STEM education program, "Katie Ledecky's Dive Into STEM Education powered by Panasonic." The digital program delivered to schools is aimed at enabling and encouraging students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

"I am committed to using my platform to inspire and make a difference, and one way I believe I can make an impact is through access and exposure to STEM education," Ledecky said. "I am thankful to my partner Panasonic, who supports this initiative and shares my vision of empowering the next generation of students to have opportunities in these important disciplines."

"A technology company like Panasonic depends on skilled STEM talent to advance our sustainable solutions for the future of transportation, food retail, immersive entertainment and much more," said Lauren Sallata, chief marketing officer, Panasonic Corporation of North America. "Supporting Katie Ledecky's Dive Into STEM Education is a natural outgrowth of Panasonic's longstanding contributions to tomorrow's workforce by investing in education. We're proud to partner with Katie to inspire the next generation of doers."
