Legislative Update from Senator Ned Claxton
Dear friend,

This week, we took an extra moment to remember the civilians and first responders who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks 18 years ago.

I joined community members and the Auburn Fire Department for a memorial ceremony. It was an honor to stand among our own first responders as we remembered those we lost. We will never forget.

Touring Bath Iron Works

Earlier this week, I was fortunate enough to tour Bath Iron Works with some of my colleagues from the Senate and House. We began our visit at Brunswick Landing, where BIW has a training facility for new employees and has partnered with Southern Maine Community College. After that, we headed to downtown Bath to tour the main shipyard. We spoke with leaders there about their need to hire thousands of employees in the coming years, learned more about their operation and got a full tour of the yard.

I was surprised to hear that over 1000 BIW employees live right here in Androscoggin County. The shipyard really does benefit all different parts of the state, and I'm glad I got to see this pillar of Maine's economy up close. Bath built is best built!

Here we are outside of the training facility at Brunswick Landing.
Meeting with family practice residents in Augusta
During the last week of August, I was invited to sit down a group of Maine Medical Center family practice residents. We talked a little bit about what goes into being a senator and the work that we do, as well as how my career as a family physician informs the decisions I make as an elected official.

Everyone in this group plans to stay in Maine to work once their residencies are over. It was an honor getting a chance to meet the next generation of great doctors that will help our state be  healthy and prosperous in the future!

My latest column
This month, my column in the Twin City Times recapped our special session, and how the results from it left me with mixed feelings.
