Judy Winkle - Classified Employee of the Year
Judy is a very dedicated employee who cares for the students and our community very deeply. She works to assist students in organizing the dental clinic so that they may easily find forms and supplies. She is gracious to the diverse population of community members who come to the clinic. She wears CSI branded shirts and always represents the college with a positive attitude and smile. She takes time to listen to all persons who come into the clinic and is eager to assist faculty and students. She is mindful of her work environment and keeps it organized and tidy. Judy is always on time and stays late or works into her lunch if the situation demands this (as when patients are still in the clinic). Her organization skills lend to her level of professionalism. She is a forward thinker who likes to keep things efficient. She is also knowledgeable of the business practices of the college, which is beneficial in managing the dental clinic receipts and supply purchasing. She is very responsible, knows her job well, and exhibits high integrity in all that she does.

Shawna currently serves as Board Vice President as a CSI Representative in the Gooding Chamber of Commerce. She is always prepared and constantly promotes the college. She is ever-ready to answer questions or find answers and follow up as necessary. She is quick to make connections using CSI resources to help those in the community and has an extremely caring approach when it comes to any type of public relations. She is dedicated to the completion of any duty as well as taking it beyond merely duty to a high level of commitment. Shawna is exemplary in her professionalism no matter who she is serving. She has shown integrity in business and work ethics in all observed situations, even shoveling snow off the entry walkways. Her lifetime contributions to CSI have left a lasting mark through her unselfishness, commitment to excellence, principles of integrity, professionalism, and institutional knowledge body of work. Shawna has performed and carried herself with impeccable character to accomplish a high-level of service and success on behalf of the college. She has been a critical part of the CSI Gooding Center impacting thousands of lives.

The CSI Early Learning Center is accepting new and used donations for children ages 12 months to 5 years old. Items such as snow boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, and coats are needed to help keep the children warm and dry while they play outside. Donations can be given to Tracey Meyhoeffer (Hepworth building) or they can be dropped off with Patty McFarling at the Early Learning Center (on Frontier Road) throughout winter. Thank you for considering this group as you come upon items that could be donated this holiday season.

S.O.A.R. is required for all students seeking a certificate or degree at the College of Southern Idaho. S.O.A.R. is designed to introduce students to the essential tools for success at the CSI. Each S.O.A.R. session begins at 8 a.m. and runs until approximately 3:30 p.m. Please let students know that a future S.O.A.R. date has been scheduled for January 10. They need to choose to attend on a date that allows them to attend the entire day. If students need to attend on a different day than they signed up for, please have them drop the session at least 24 hours prior to S.O.A.R. If they do not drop the course 24 hours before they will be charged for that day. If they have any dietary or accessibility needs have them contact the Office of Admissions to set up accommodations.

State of Idaho Health Matters
The "10 Ten" Mini Challenge invites you to make 10 ten-year goals. Think about where you would like to be in 10 years. Where will you be in your profession? Where will you be in your family life? Where will you be financially? Write down at least 10 ten-year goals and put them somewhere you can see them periodically, or even daily.
Lewis Carrol, who penned Alice in Wonderland, said, "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." Your short list of ten goals will define where you want to go and will help you choose which road to take daily. Your goals will give you direction and purpose when you face rough times and will inspire you to go beyond what you would normally do when times are good. The Wellbeing Program and Sustainability Council challenge you to a Spring Semester devoted to simplifying and minimizing your life at home and at work. We will use a wonderful tool from the becomingminimalist.com website to Declutter Your Home to get started. Chances are, you won't be able to complete this journey in only a few months. In fact, I started on this list of 101 things to minimize or eliminate last February and completed it on New Year's eve when I finally tackled holiday décor and the other last items in my attic at home. I can't tell you how good that felt!

Footprints offer clues about where we came from and where we're headed. Their impressions tell us something about the animals that leave them. But while actual footprints offer details on size, weight and speed, carbon footprints measure how much carbon dioxide (CO2) we produce just by going about our daily lives. A drive to work, a flip

switch and a flight out of town all rely on the combustion of fossil fuels like

, coal and gas. When fossil fuels burn, they emit greenhouse gases like CO2 that contribute to

We can start by choosing to minimize the things and behaviors in our lives that impact the impression we leave.

Reducing THINGS in our homes will allow us unbelievable freedom from stuff! We will celebrate with recyclable shopping bags for all our participants when we wrap up during our Earth Day events.

Empty Bowls" is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. The promotion and growth of the project is managed by The Imagine/RENDER Group, a 5013 organization. Each community's events are independent.

Throughout the last 50 years, 1700 Young Ambassadors have traveled thousands of miles, visited 68 countries, and met millions of new friends who long remember the group's fast-paced choreography and beloved melodies. Young Ambassadors have captured the hearts of young and old through half a century of tours.Young Ambassadors continue their energetic tradition of song and dance as they recall their past travels in their new show--Souvenirs. Young Ambassadors feature 20 of BYU's best singers and dancers, and 10 of BYU's finest instrumentalists in the Young Ambassador Showband. Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best New Play, August: Osage County centers around the Weston family, brought together after their patriarch, world-class poet and alcoholic Beverly Weston, disappears. The matriarch, Violet, depressed and addicted to pain pills and "truth-telling," is joined by her three daughters and their problematic lovers, who harbor their own deep secrets, her sister Mattie Fae and her family, well-trained in the Weston family art of cruelty, and finally, the observer of the chaos, the young Cheyenne housekeeper Johnna, who was hired by Beverly just before his disappearance. Holed up in the large family estate in Osage County, Oklahoma, tensions heat up and boil over in the ruthless August heat. West Coast violinist Kimberlee Dray meets Slovakian pianist Peter Fancovic in New York City to rehearse. The duo truly represents the fusion of East and West, characterizing their program spanning Prokofiev to Gershwin. While Peter earned his Master's of Music in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, Kimberlee studied under famed Soviet violinist Nina Beilina. The merging of cultures informs their collaboration, making this recital of Soviet and American repertoire a particularly rewarding adventure as evidence of the power of music to unite cultures and people. An active recitalist, Kimberlee has performed across the United States and Peter is a much sought after soloist and collaborator, having performed in venues such as Concertgebouw, with Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Cuba and many others.

Through a combination of lecture-based presentations, interactive activities and one-on-one coaching, you will develop your personal leadership style, learn methods to foster a high-performance culture and acquire tools that you can implement immediately in your workplace.
Your Leadership Legacy by Robert Galford and Regina Maruca will provide direction for the program, challenging you to think about and formulate your leadership legacy. In one-on-one sessions instructor, Michelle Shinn, will help you assess your current impact, elevate your work and achieve your leadership goals.
The Emerging Leader Program consists of six 4-hour sessions. All sessions will be held on Fridays from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m at CSI's Main Campus. Enrollment is capped at 12 participants.

| Registration is Now Open for the Annual Herrett Center for Arts and Science 2020 STEAM Camp-In |
Registration is now open for the Herrett Center for Arts and Science 2020 STEAM Camp-In, which will be held on Friday, March 6. During this event, one hundred third, fourth, and fifth graders will experience a night of fun and learning STEAM-that's science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The camp-in includes a STEAM-based workshop, a presentation from Zoo Boise, a screening of a planetarium show, telescope viewing in the Centennial Observatory, a group scavenger hunt in the museum galleries, and a night of camping in among the museum gallery exhibits. Late night snacks and a light breakfast in the morning will be provided as well.

Registration is $50 per camper and closes Saturday, February 22, 2020. It's first come, first served, so get your child's registration in soon!

Governor Little highlights education, other priorities in 2020 State of the State and Budget Address
Boise, Idaho - Governor Brad Little emphasized his push for greater investments in literacy, teachers, and Idaho's public education system during his State of the State and Budget Address today.
"We have a constitutional and moral obligation to all our youngest citizens," Governor Little said. "I subscribe to the view that it is better to prepare children today than to repair them later."
Other highlights from the Governor's speech include continued regulatory reform, grocery tax relief for Idaho families, responsible budgeting, investments in public safety and corrections, and making health care in Idaho more accessible and affordable for all Idahoans.
"I'm committed to working with the Legislature to invest in education, continue reducing regulatory burdens, and increase all Idahoans' prosperity and quality of life. I want us to champion affordable health care, make Idaho safer, and promote healthy lands and waters. I want Idahoans to be confident in their state government," Governor Little said.
Some of Governor Little's budget and policy highlights include:
EDUCATION
: Increased funds for literacy and teacher salaries; teacher training to promote school safety; enhanced higher education collaboration and the availability of a new cross-institution cybersecurity program; new career technical education facilities at community colleges; support for Idaho Job Corps at community colleges; and workforce development grants.
ZERO-BASED REGULATION
: Required routine examination and streamlining of Idaho's full administrative code moving forward; modernization of Idaho statutes; and simplifying licensure laws so individuals relocating to Idaho can start working in their profession more quickly and easily.
CONSERVATIVE BUDGET
: Grocery tax relief for Idaho families; Governor's budget cuts spending, leaves a surplus, bolsters rainy-day funds, and limits true General Fund spending growth to a conservative 3.75-percent; improved process for ensuring accurate economic forecasts; and renewed focus on transparency in Idaho budgeting.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
: Medicaid Expansion fully funded with net-zero impact on General Fund; increased number of medical residents in Idaho to address shortage of physicians; new funds to combat opioid crisis; continued support of enhanced short-term plans for Idaho individuals and families priced out of the insurance market by Obamacare; and continued support of community recovery centers.
PUBLIC SAFETY
: Investments in Connection and Intervention Stations and community reentry centers to lower taxpayer costs, reduce demand for prison beds, make Idaho communities safer, and help inmates lead productive lives following incarceration; and investments in Idaho State Police fleet, investigators, and dispatchers.
PROMOTING STRONG ECONOMY
: New State Broadband Office within Commerce so all of Idaho can be better served with broadband connectivity; praise for passage of U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement to support Idaho farmers and producers; and close to $100 million to maintain and improve the state's highway system.
ENVIRONMENT
: New resources available to advance Shared Stewardship and the Good Neighbor Authority, to reduce fire risk, create jobs, and promote forest health; ongoing funding for wolf monitoring programs; new position at Office of Species Conservation and continuation of Idaho Roadless Commission to enhance state's authority over federal lands in the state; continued support for new agriculture lab; and expanded trail maintenance for summer off-highway vehicles.
ENHANCING STATE GOVERNMENT
: New State Employee Hotline where state employees can anonymously and securely raise concerns about potential fraud, waste, and abuse within state government; continued investments in IT Modernization to help protect citizen data; and a 2-percent merit-based Change in Employee Compensation to help retain Idaho's hard-working permanent state employees.

STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT ON THE GOVERNOR'S STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS
"Idaho Governor Brad Little continues to demonstrate his commitment to public education in Idaho," State Board President Debbie Critchfield said. "Despite a lean budget year, Governor Little today outlined his plan to add $30 million to improve teacher pay. He called on lawmakers to continue funding for early childhood literacy programs and the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship. Governor Little also recommends additional training and resources to better equip teachers to identify and serve students with behavioral health issues to improve conditions for learning. These were all recommendations put forward last year by the Governor's "Our Kids, Idaho's Future" task force. I applaud the Governor's proposed investment in a collaborative cyber security program at our three universities, which reflects the Board's emphasis on operating as a system. His proposal to fund Career Technical Education facilities at Lewis-Clark State College and the College of Eastern Idaho will help students and industry. As Board President, I commend Governor Little for his efforts on behalf of our students and teachers and I look forward to working with him and with lawmakers this session on these and other education-related initiatives."

The Alzheimer's Association is the world's largest voluntary health organization. Our vision is a world without Alzheimer's. As we continue our world renowned research, advocate, educate and care for this fragile population, we have an opportunity in our community to offer an amazing program to those working through Early Stages of Alzheimer's Disease. We are currently seeking those who are in Early Stages and help them through education in a support group setting.
Just to share a little bit about the program-
- 10 weeks of discussions with professional staff from our community
- Set up like a support group
- Round table discussions
- For the caregiver and patient
- Each week a different subject is discussed: legal and financial, long term care, progression of the disease, psycho-social evaluations and knowing how to care for your person etc...
- Our facilitator is Michelle Tigue. She has worked in the senior care industry for about 10 years and is a Psychology, PHD candidate working on social change dialogue. Other experts in their field will be announced as we interview and place people in the group and confirm dates.

New Planetarium Show - Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation
|
Every rock tells a story. Many of the rocks across southern Idaho tell a story of a landscape sculpted by volcanic activity. Volcanoes intrigue us with their incredible power and potential to cause mass destruction. Beginning December 26, residents of southern Idaho can gain a better appreciation and understanding for volcanoes when the Faulkner Planetarium opens the giant screen film Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation.
Witness the incredible tale of the birth of our planet in which volcanoes played a crucial role. Then step into the present and follow along as National Geographic photographer Carsten Peter takes you along on a personal journey to see volcanoes from the inside, revealing their hidden mysteries. Get up close to the 2018 eruption of Hawaii's Kilauea and watch as Carsten attempts to descend to a lava lake as it roils and churns, launching fountains of lava. Carsten's passion for volcanoes will grab you, thrill you, and scare you all at the same time. You may never want to get as close to an active volcano in real life as Carsten does, but you can go there with him from the safety of your seat in the planetarium.
Moviegoers will gain a new appreciation for the forces that created the stark beauty of Craters of the Moon, with its extinct splatter cones and plains of frozen lava, and other lava flows across southern Idaho. Every rock tells a story.
Planetarium manager Rick Greenawald says: "This is a stunning movie experience. The cinematography is beautiful and gives you a real appreciation for the power of volcanoes. Carsten Peter's passion for volcanoes shines through and adds a human element to the story. I am certain that audiences of all ages will enjoy this film."
Opening week show times are 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and again at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The week of December 31, showings will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and again at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Starting the week of January 5, showings will be at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the month of January. Admission prices to the planetarium are $6 adults (18 to 59), $5 seniors (60+), $4 children (2 to 17) and CSI students with a valid student ID, children under the age of 2 are admitted free.
Located in the Herrett Center for Arts and Science on the College of Southern Idaho campus in Twin Falls, ID, the Faulkner Planetarium is the premiere planetarium in Idaho. Public shows are offered on Tuesday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons and evenings throughout the academic year. Expanded public show schedules are offered during the summer and holiday season.

Four seats on the Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are up for election this year with terms beginning February 21, 2020.
DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS 12 P.M. ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 17, 2020! Three of these seats are full 3-year terms expiring at the annual meeting in 2023. The fourth seat is a partial term that will end at the annual meeting in 2021. The person who wins this seat will be eligible to run again in 2021 for a full term.
Any employee of a Chamber member business (in good standing - meaning the member is current on their annual dues payment and has no other outstanding payments due to the Chamber) is eligible to run for election to the Board.
One business member company may not have more than one person representing their company on the board. Ongoing board members represent the following companies: Fairfield Inn & Suites/TownePlace Suites, State Farm Insurance, Glanbia Nutritionals, Cold Stone Creamery/Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, First Federal, Watkins Distributing, Chobani, and Idaho Power Company.
Directors serve for a 3-year term and are responsible for the supervision of the Chamber, the direction of its work and policy making. The Board of Directors controls the Chamber's property and is responsible for the organization's finances.
The Board meets monthly and Directors also attend Chamber functions and committee meetings as needed.

The CSI Social Sciences & Humanities Symposium will explore the history and implications of the 19th Amendment and the Women's Suffrage Movement on March 12 and 13, 2020. Day one will examine the full context of the amendment. Day two will consider the implications and impact in contemporary America.
For teachers and students alike the cost of $65 will cover registration and food. To register visit MyCSI and choose either HUMA 199 or SOCY 199A C01, for continuing professional development or for the student who needs an additional transcript credit. A community registraiton portal will be open soon. Scholarships are available to cover the cost of the credit.
