WOLFHOUND WEDNESDAY
November 10, 2021
Our first graders had fun with a visit from author Kate David on Friday! They got to dress up as characters from her book McKay and the Magical Hat.
The O'Reilly Minute
Dear Parents,

Last Thursday and Friday I had the great honor of representing our school in Washington, DC to accept our 3rd National Blue Ribbon. Joining me for this great event was Dr. Adam Dufault, the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Dufault took time from his busy schedule to attend this event stating that it is important for him and for the Diocese to recognize the great work of our teachers, students and parents in building a strong Catholic school of academic excellence. It was truly a memorable event and an opportunity to reflect on and continue the celebration of the amazing success and dedication of our community in providing an exemplary academic experience grounded in Catholic teachings and values.

Recently, the State of Ohio and Franklin County Public Health have issued new guidance titled “Mask to Stay/Test to Play.” The Diocese of Columbus and St. Brigid School have adopted this guidance. Please click here to read the details. Please note, these guidelines are all based on an exposure to Covid-19 in the school setting and that preschool, Pre-K and latchkey are not covered by the “Mask to Stay” guidelines.

Several parents have inquired if the recent Diocesan decision to make masks optional for our Catholic high schools will flow through to the elementary schools. The high school decision was made knowing that many of the students have had time to become fully vaccinated if they choose to do so and that the case numbers in Franklin County have been falling. Keep in mind that the high schools may need to reinstate the mask requirement in the future for brief periods of time in the event of an outbreak or high community transmission. Please know that there is ongoing evaluation and consideration regarding masking in the elementary schools. As students ages 5 - 11 begin the first dose of a two dose vaccination process, the timeline for any masking changes for this age group has not yet been established.

Today you will be receiving 1st quarter report cards. You will be receiving an email around noon today with directions for accessing the report cards through your FACTS family portal.  Please note that there is no place to sign off that you have read the report card. FACTS is still working on this feature and we hope to have it available in the future.

Autumn blessings,
Kathy O’Reilly

2021 Fire Prevention Poster Contest Winners

Congrats Sophia and Shelby!
Advent Collections
The eighth grade students of the Saint Brigid of Kildare Class of 2022 are holding not one, not two, but THREE toy drives to celebrate our third Blue Ribbon Award and the three weeks of Advent that we will celebrate together. Each week of Advent, we will focus our efforts on one organization, all three of which are dedicated to assisting needy families during this Christmas season. The need is very great this year, so we are asking all of our Wolfhound families to help in any way that you can.

We will be helping to stock the toy shelves at the Common Ground Free Store in Delaware, Basement Blessings in Lewis Center, and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center in Columbus. We will be collecting new and gently used toys and games (see below) to send off to each of these amazing organizations. We hope that each Wolfhound family will be able to send in one new toy, and multiple used toys. Our collection goal is 333 toys each week for each of the 3 organizations!

Thank you for helping us make the first three weeks of Advent a time when we all give from our hearts, and remember those in need.

PLEASE NOTE: Used toys and games must be clean, complete, and in a safe condition with no missing or broken parts. We cannot accept used board games, used puzzles, or used toys for infants and toddlers.

Get Ahead on Your Christmas Gift Giving This Year
Make your life easier by checking one thing off your Christmas gift list! Donate to Gifts of Gratitude! Home & School has provided you with a convenient way to show your appreciation to the teachers and staff at St. Brigid during Christmas and at the end of the year.

What is it?
Gifts of gratitude was established by the Home and School Association as a united effort to provide a generous monetary gift to every school and parish teacher and staff member at Christmas and the end of the year to thank them for all they do for our children.

Why participate?
This is a convenient way for families to make sure that each teacher, aide, and staff member who touches your child's life is recognized for all they do at St. Brigid.
Instead of several small gifts from each student, each teacher and staff member will receive a monetary gift that they choose how to use--whether they want to splurge on themselves or help with their own family's expenses.

Will my family be recognized for participating?
Yes -- the teachers and staff will receive a list of families who participate in this
program. You may also let the teachers and staff know that you participated in the program by marking "G.O.G" inside your Christmas card to them.

How much do I give?
The suggested annual gift amount is $25 per child once a year, however any given amount is graciously accepted and appreciated!

Can't remember if you already contributed?
No worries -- just contact Sherri Johnson at [email protected] and she will let you know!

You can find the link for Gifts of Gratitude at the button below. Choose your donation amount and that's it. It's that easy! It's such a simple way to show appreciation to your child/children's teachers and the staff at St Brigid of Kildare.
Security Hounds Tips & News
We will be conducting Social Media lessons for the 5th grade in November. This is a good time to talk with your child about online safety, apps and games they like to play online. Maybe join them? Even if you can only manage to run your gaming character in circles or into a wall…. your kids will appreciate it!

HELPFUL SAFETY TIP FOR ONLINE SAFETY:
If you use your smartphone or other mobile device to post or check in on an app, you could be sharing your location. Please check your settings to make sure you are sharing only what you wish to share.
Keep in mind that third party and connected apps sometimes allow you to log into one app utilizing information from another. This could allow the company to access your profile information. Please be careful.

HELPFUL FACTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT TEENS:
According to Pew Research Center, November 2018 “Teens” Social Media Habits and Experiences and Netsmartz:

  • 37% of teens feel pressured to post content that will get a lot of “likes” on social media.

  • 45% of teens feel overwhelmed by drama on social media.

Talk with your child about how social media makes them feel. Sometimes their “mood” can be attributed to just too much screen time.

As always, please reach out for anything. [email protected] or 614.718.5825 ext. 276.

Blood Drive December 13
With the holiday season approaching, the need for blood donation is critical! The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced donations. There is no manufactured equivalent to human blood; it must be donated to the Red Cross and then allocated to hospitals based on levels of need. If you can spare an hour of your time on Monday, December 13, please consider donating in Hendricks Hall from 1:30 - 7:00 pm. The link to schedule an appointment is: RedCrossBlood.org using sponsor code: saintbrigid. You can also call 1-800-RED CROSS to register.

Thank you in advance for considering a donation. It is a perfect Christmas gift!
